VetRX Veterinary Remedy for Poultry - 2 oz.

VetRex may be used internally by mixing one ounce to each gallon of drinking water, or...
I love vet rx but can be messy
Pros: smells great, helps birds like vicks vapor rub helps hoomans
Cons: container warps a little in hot tap water , messy to dispense
This is the first choice I go to when a bird seems to have a cold or any respiratory issue and sometimes thats all they need and they get well,, but other times if its something more serious like a bacterial infection they may need an antibiotic or something else.. The instructions say to warm it up by putting the container in warm water I used my tap water but it does warp/melt the plastic container a little so it no longer stands upright. It also does spill a little when squeezing it out so now I put a few drops in a shotglass and dip my finger in to rub some on birds head and on top of back (under wings where they tuck their head in at night.)
it smells to good and is all natural !
Piece of Mind
Pros: Seems to work for sneezing
Cons: Not a treatment, more of a symptom reducer
I use VetRx when my chickens sneeze, or it looks like they may have a cold. I liken it to Vicks vaper rub for humans. At the same time, it does appear to “clear” mild upper respiratory issues. I think it should be in any chicken keepers medical inventory.

My experience with VetRx
Pros: It is affordable and treats several seasonal issues in chickens. I have used it with success in all seasons of the year.
Cons: Take Care in the container design, you could dispense too much. Try gently shaking as oppose squeezing the container or putting some first on a Q-tip
:weeSince I purchased VetRx a little over a year ago, I have had success in using it on my girls. I have a hen, that from time-to-time sneezes, or swallows a piece of something that's too large for her and recently, her comb was injured and bloody by one of the other hens. I brought her inside and worked the VetRx on her comb from the bathroom tube for a few days.
The VetRx has also been used on another hen's comb, on the veggies leaves and a small drop by dropper when I had to get a small drop down one of the girl's mouths. They are all, "faring," well after each use. Just has been my experiences with VetRx.

Pros: Helps sickly birds (somewhat), makes combs red and beautiful
Cons: Isn't really a treatment, dries out combs A LOT, oily
I've used VetRx for sick birds that I've had. I've given it to them in their water, orally, and in the nostrils. It does not appear to be a real treatment, in my experience. It might help alleviate some of the symptoms, but has never cured my birds. Still, I've heard that some people have had success with it.

As for a comb dressing at show, VetRx does make the comb and wattles shine. It is a little oily and hard to control sometimes, but makes them look pretty (just don't get it on the feathers or your clothes). However, within two days or so of the show, my bird's combs become extremely dry. I believe that the VetRx causes this, so keep that in mind while using it.

Pros: Smells great, works quickly, easy to use
Cons: I don't think it's really a con, but since it's oil based, it can be messy.
A friend that raises and shows chickens brought me over a bottle of this stuff when I told her my old rooster has a rash that won't go away. We rubbed some on his rashy area, legs and his comb. He seemed to really like it. I also put a few drops in their water. I can't say it cured his rash as it's still here-but improving (and I'm using another product on the rash as well), but he just seems to be doing generally better. I had a lot of the product on my hands, so I wiped it on hen who had lost a ton of feathers (due to bugs I think). I just rubbed it on her back and sides. The NEXT DAY her feathers started growing back. It could be a coincidence....but I love this stuff!

Pros: Its very helpful for my chickens
Cons: It's oily so don't wipe it on your pants!
I use this every time I go to a show, to spice up my chickens looks, it makes their combs redden and beaks shiny. When my chickens don't look to healthy I dab some on them, it works and i'm glad I use it.
