Hello all!
I have a 5-month Blue Satin cockerel (Silkie and Cochin cross) who has recently mastered crowing at all hours of the day. I live in a neighborhood that isn't really all that fond of roosters (they're not actually allowed) but we fully plan on keeping him... but we are worried about...
Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate you taking the time to answer and your instructions are very clear and helpful!
Do you think it is necessary for me to quarantine her at this point? (I have her in a hospital cage right now).
Hello!
I am a poultry owner from Ohio and I recently got 9 more chicks from Meyers Hatchery this July 29. They are overall healthy except for the Splash Orpington (4 months about) She was always the heaviest and largest bird in the flock but I noticed starting late October that she would...
I've had hens for seven years and the first predator attack I ever had was yesterday. I let my standard hens free range outdoors and while I was in the front yard I heard a scree from a Red-tailed Hawk. I ran back to see white feathers from my Cochin, Baby, everywhere. We found her a little...
Hi! I have a standard Buff Brahma hen who is 2 1/2 years old.
She has been very healthy and by far one of my best show hens. Yet, in the past few weeks her bottom has become more bloated and has red stretch marks on the bottom. When I feel it with my hands it feels like its filled with some...
I'm so sorry about your hen!
May Cheddar rest in peace.
To me it seems unlikely to be the dog, and especially if you say your dog has never been a problem before. I'm thinking it could have been vent prolapse. When a hen lays an egg in a normal case the reproductive tract will evert itself to...
Hello,
I have have 1 1/2 year old hen who last Saturday morning wouldn't leave her perch. The night before had been raw and windy, even though our coop was insulated well. The others seemed fine. I brought her inside to a hospital cage and did all I could for her. I'd been feeding her as best...
If she still seems lethargic/ in shock you may want to move a heater near her hospital cage. Birds have higher core body temperatures then us so sometimes keeping their temp. up in a cold room takes up too much energy.
Also, is she eating on her own? It is essential that she gets enough nutrients.
I'm sorry to hear about your hens and the rooster. Sorry no one saw this post sooner.
You will certainly want to act on the situation if you have other chickens. If the chickens did eat rat feces then you want to make sure your other birds can't get at them. If they're getting into the coop...
Hi,
Sorry to hear about the chick problems. Hope this helps.
I'm thinking that the death of the other chicks are mostly likely unrelated to the leg issues. From what I can tell your chicks have what's called "Splayed Leg" or "Spraddle Leg" which is fairly common in young chicks. You're going...
Here's an update on the hen:
Overall not to much of a change.
-won't open her eyes for more than a few seconds
-Refusing to eat the scrambled egg or mashed corn bits
-head still panning to the right and occasional wing jerk as though she's dizzy
-occasional gaping of the mouth
-bright pink...
Yes... vaccinated for Mareks, nothing seems wrong, not sour crop, not impacted. Gonna inject some Tylan 50 into her. See what it does. She doesn't seem any better. Eyes still won't open.
Please Help!
Hello,
I have a 1.5 year old standard Buff Brahma hen. This morning, when letting the flock out of the coop she didn't come out. Instead she stayed on the perch shivering with her eyes closed. It was 55 F out. Thinking maybe she was cold I brought her inside and put her in a...
Shouldn't effect the eggs. Never heard anything about a withdrawal period in all my research about Tri-Neo. Anyway, I ate the eggs while treating a few of my hens... nothing was different... and I'm obviously still here. :)
