I was thinking that as well. But I feel like I need to know for sure how many she has because I have two black snakes that live around the coop area and need to know what she has so when I do watch from afar I'll know if anything is different for the next couple weeks.
I need to get a count mainly. She was on 9 eggs and no eggs left in nest but I've only counted 7 so far. Mainly trying to get a count and try to sex them because I'm only keeping two out of the nest.
I had my first hatching this week and so far I have tried to let her do all the work and left her alone and watched from afar. However tomorrow I'm planning on taking her chicks from her for about an hour to check them out myself and to get a count & all but after a friends story of a hen...
I can move her to the other corner of the coop but that would expose her more to nature. I'm pretty sure she would hear it on that side as well, but it wouldn't be as close. My coop is set up as a 8x10 dog run that is covered in two sides and roof. I have them in the most protected area right...
Question. I have two Broody hens that are setup in two separate dog crates, positioned side-by-side. Will the chirping from one hens nest confuse the other hen next to it? One could hatch anytime and the other hen is only on day 4 or 5. First time trying chicks with a broody hens. [/IMG]
Outcome: I just thought i would post what happened at the vet. The vet put her down. She dislocated both legs by a fall most likely and its the best thing to do for her but atleast i now know there wasn't anything i could do and this needed to happen.
On the bright side she doesn't have...
Her poop looks better and normal. she is better about keeping her in a head up but still pretty much paralyzed, thinking if she makes it to tomorrow I'm in a take her to the vet to see what it is and know if I need to cull or not.
The last couple days I have noticed a sore on her leg that could...
I have one young pullet that ive had for about a month and a half. Last thursday when i came home from work I couldn't find her to lock her into the coop. The next morning i didnt see her but she appeared inside the coop aoon after i opened the door in the morning. At quick glance then she...
So far they are alone in a fence coop so I could watch them and have my flock see them first. That's why I opened the door for them to free range together for the first time so if bullied they could get away but I didn't even get that far cause seriously staying on the bar. And not exploring...
I bought two chickens at an auction and have had them for four days and not once have a caught them off the roost bar. Today I even open the door for them to free range and they stayed in all day and everytime I went to check on them they were in the same spot. The are adult hens and a little...
Warning* disturbing news* ......
My silkie I bought at auction turned out to be a rooster :( I asked everyone I know with chickens if they wanted him, called local chicken farms, posted an ad in Craigslist and other chicken forums with no luck so .....
So I got rid of the rooster and by 'got rid...
This morning I woke up and my mind was blown by my only silkie crowing. I'm pretty sure she was a hen?!? I bought her at a auction and she was listed as female. I've attached a picture. Can this just be a freak thing? Did she crow because she felt in danger? I don't keep roosters, only hens and...
I noticed that my speckled Sussex (Josie) is missing a toe on her right foot. No clue how it happened and besides walking with a limp she seems to be fine. Clean and not bleeding and seems to of already sealed the skin...
Is there anything I need to do about this? I noticed the limp the other...
