this is how big it was compared to our other eggs. I've been getting a lot of eggs with the holes in the end. It's been so hot this summer. So the dogs have been getting the broken eggs with their breakfast this summer. They are happy happy dogs
What the heck? I'm starting to guess that between the hot weather and I'm not sure what else could be wrong.
They eat an organic layer feed, there is usually oyster shell available although sometimes they knock it down and spill it so they are out till we get it back up again, they have water...
I'm really curious, For those of you that leave your eggs at room temp:
What is the temp of your house during the warmer months and how long do you let them stay there?
For the sake of our electric bill, we keep our house about 77-78 in the daytime and closer to 80-81 at night in the summer...
Rain is not a huge huge concern. The yearly average is 6". However we will be putting the hinge at the top because otherwise, it has to go at the bottom. I'm getting excited to see the coop making progress. Hubs is putting up roofing shingles today, hopefully cutting the pop doors out, and I am...
Hello and Good Afternoon,
Long story short, I bought a window at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore ($2) and so now I have to build a frame and put hinges on it so I can open it since they didn't have any sliding windows that would fit.
What next?? do you know any online tutorials to help me...
How fun, I must admit, the girls being 5 weeks this week, I am bringing home a larger bin since we are just putting up walls today. They seem to have grown an inch in the last week!!! We are also painting as we go along. So that is adding time. They would not only like a little more room, but...
Oh lovely, that's that answer I was afraid of. I bet that's what my dad would say too.
As much as I love wood working projects, I really don't like sanding and all the prep work. It's exhausting!!
Thank you for the compliments. I am in love with the color, the coop itself will be brown...
So we stained the wood that frames the run. My question is do we need to seal it also or can we just leave it stained?
The average rainfall here is only 6" a year, so rain is not my concern except for couple times a year, heat and sun are a major concern.
Thank you for advice!! I can't wait...
So, the consensus is I'm trying to baby them too much. LOL
Seriously though, thank you so much for your advice. The Hubs is use to me over babying things and has learned to live with it.
Our coop and run should be done by the time they are 6 weeks old. (still trying to map out windows...
Hello!!
I see all the designs for colder climates, what are your favorite tips & elements for hot summer weather (90-110) with a handful of chilly freezing nights in the winter.
I've planned several vents & doors, but before we cut, I thought I'd ask!!! :)
So just curious, when did you put your babies out permanently? Our girls are 4 weeks old and we are finishing up the coop & run now. They seem anxious to explore & always happy for outside time but 5-6 weeks seems so soon so I thought I'd run a little poll.
This coming week the highs are...
We borrowed a 250watt lamp from friends so we wouldn't have to buy one. I ended up keeping it about 4' or more above the brooder. And I still had to turn it off because it would get to hot. So i was checking the temp 6-10 times a day as well as in the middle of the night for the first week till...
