I have been raising barnyard type chickens for years but like to get into Seramas. I have been watching many Serama youtube videos and notice that many people, especially in the asian videos, have a raised nest box mounted on the wall. Almost like a bird house. Is this a special requirement for...
My experience is that birds from the same hatch that were placed in a pen from young and grew up together in that pen can be in smaller spaces without problems than new birds that are introduced in new pens.
Do you have snakes in your area? I am in the Bahamas, I tried the wire bottom cages outside but little snakes came in and I used to find them in the morning...stuck in the cage...like a bicycle inner tube with ping pong balls in them... all my chicks gone..
The problem with my home made incubator was that at night the temperature went down in the room and so did the temp in the incubator... it caused many sleepless nights watching the incubator... then in the morning the temp was too high... Eventually I bought a Brinsea Mini eco. Now I have one...
Hi I feed my chickens coconut all the time, the white pulp left overs after we make coconut oil or just cut them in half, chickens gut them.
I tried feeding them to the quail, they don't seem to be too interested. A few pecks and nibbels that's it. But I never lost a chicken or quail because of...
I used to have chickens for years, but my work situation changed and I am now busier than I used to be, I sold my chickens and kept the quail. Way less maintainance for me. They are in a raised 8'x4' hutch, on a sand floor. Once I had all my cracks sealed and changed all my wiring to 1/4"...
Really jealous of your neat aviary. I had the crushed love pile deaths too. I added a lamp and a dropchord to my outside brooder. I also found out later snakes can get thru half inch hardware cloth... they used to give chicks the death bite and dissapear. One day i found a small cornsnake with 4...
I also bought one of the plastic yellow incubators (https://www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-Products-Incubator-Temperature/dp/B010OUJCGS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1499355231&sr=8-5&keywords=incubator) I was a bit sceptical but I am on my fiftth hatch, I bought it in January '17. I like it better than...
I miscalculated the days and I am on day 17 instead of day 14. The eggs have been in the eggturner all this time, I am reluctant to take the eggturner out at this stage! Will they hatch in the egg turner, did anyone ever hatch eggs in the turner?
I had the same idea and it failed too. I came to the conclusion that there was no access to air while the egg was in the plastic quail carton. If you check the eggturners they all have ventilation openings, they are not solid plastic "egg holders". So maybe cut some holes in the plastic quail...
Quail Condo (3 levels) made from a tile crate on its side.
I used old louvred bifold doors I found for the doors. I took out the louvres.
I found the complete shingled roof at a dump site for hurricane damage.
Yes thanks, it clears up a lot of confusion for me. I was gifted two bob whites but really want to get into the coturnix type birds. An ebayer close to me offers a mixed set of eggs mentioned in the OP, I just wanted to make sure if they could mix. I dont mind crosses as long as they lay and...
