For my chickenstock hatch, 27 went into the hatcher. Most of their incubation was done under broodies & I had an issue w the hatcher getting to temp as I was moving them, so did not candle much prior to going into the hatcher. So far 9 have hatched & 3 more have pipped. Looks like one of the...
Ugh, that's rough. And tough to know the best way to deal w her, bc it's great she has interest. I prob would've done the same thing as a child, not been able to keep my hands off the bator. Still as an adult I have trouble with that, lol. Good luck. Better hatches in your future, I'm sure!
So one of my broodies decided she'd like to be a part of the chickenstock hatch-a-long. She hid an egg from me when I was moving things around & one escaped my plan. Can anyone see the chick? Momma hen seems to think she's hiding it.
My chickenstock eggs got a late start, so mine are still only on day 19. They're hanging out in the hatcher right now. 22 spitz eggs. Will post any progress.
Ack. That looks painful. I'd never had any prolapse issues w her. She's a very sweet bird. Hope she's ok. I did have prolapse issues with a different bird and applied raw honey to the area after washing her off a few nights in a row. It seemed to help.
Congrats!! I had 3 chicks hatch in the past 2 weeks. 3 more eggs in the hatcher, but those are not showing much promise. I can't believe how adorable pea chicks are. No one warned me, lol. Love their eyeliner and their calm demeanor and how they look at you when u peak in on them. Their...
I'm no one to judge. Current population here is somewhere around 65-70, but still the bator & broodies are incubating another 40 eggs and just received 6 more pea eggs. Eyeing another auction as well. Think it's an illness or an addiction or something. What's wrong w me?

CS: Chamois/Silver (sex-linked)

The numbers are the day of the month which the eggs were collected. Hope all of them hatch! You will likely get all the different colors.
A few weeks ago when I was shuffling broodies & eggs & chicks, I put some 'dummy eggs' under a broody to keep her broody. The 'dummy eggs' consisted of eggs that had been washed and put in the refridgerator at least 2 weeks prior and then marked with a sharpe "X". I didn't think those eggs...
I mentioned a suicidal pigeon I picked up on my way home from chickenstock. Here he is:
Someone answered my CL found ad w info on a local pigeon guy whose bird it might be. I contacted the very nice pigeon guy & he said it wasn't his bird, but he knew a few people in the area whom the bird...
Yep, that egg is probably fertile. The roo in that pen is chamois (aka sham-wow), so the chick could be either gold spangled pullet, chamois pullet, white cockerel split to chamois, or silver cockerel split to gold. I put the chamois roo over a few silvers bc he has super nice type and the...
You took home a couple gold spangled Spitzhaubens. Hope they're both ok. I felt like a bad chick mom that I didn't have a way to cool them down. Always so focused on keeping that age warm. I should've brought some frozen water bottles for them. Thank goodness we had some shade.
So I almost made it all the way home from chickenstock without acquiring additional birds. Was only 20 minutes from home when stopped at a light, saw a fancy pigeon trying to find water in the cracks in the road. Traffic was swerving to avoid hitting him. I was sure I was going to watch him...
Thank you @Chicken girl 15for being such a great host!! I think a good time was had by all!! It was so great to see everyone!! Hope everyone made it home safe!!
