now that they have gotten outside more I have been able to watch closer…..the one I question being a roo is obviously more aggressive, appears to be raising/fluffing neck feathers (hackle feathers?) and the others just run away. They are between 5-6 weeks old so I imagine it should become...

our chickens are fed grower still..... I don't consider them free range but I do let them out some during the day but not much since now they have no interest in going in their portable run...
the shell on the egg we got today seemed fine but I will get some oyster shell to offer anyway...
I finally got my 1st egg today .....YEAH!!!
and it's time for more feed..... I have some grower left and will buy some layer tonight to add to it....do I also need the oyster shell?

heard some strange noises from the chicken coop/run earlier, walked out and noticed a chicken was missing..looked in the coop, there she was acting FUNNY.....squatting,standing, squatting standing and OUT CAME THE EGG!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!

So far I have not heard any obvious crowing... although he/she seems to be very vocal if all the other chickens are out of his/her sight....
6 chickens and not far.... just depends on where I move the run to. Probably the farthest would be 100 feet...
I don't mind carrying them but I don't wanna stress them out because they don't seem to like being carried too much...
They are 13 weeks now.... I am assuming they are Br's but is there a definite way to tell at this age? As chicks, these 4 were black with white spots on their heads but were bought in a bin with 2 black sex link females so I have always questioned it.

I have 2 black stars and 4 br's ( at least i hope br's and not sexlink males) they are 13 weeks old. I have no idea when they will begin laying... are there signs to look for? Not sure when to give them layer feed either..
I have 4 barred rocks (at least I think they are BR's) and 2 black stars. I just bought a 50lb bag of starter/grower...still unopened... My friend just told me this morning she already put her 13 weekers on layer pellets. She said her other chickens began laying at 16 weeks last year...
right now we are carrying 6 chickens daily.... not fun anymore.... especially when the chickens aren't happy you are carrying them.. not to mention getting chicken poop on you from where they have stepped in it.... Sorry for not painting a prettier picture. But it is what it is.
