I do too!! They go from roly poly little fat balls to ducks in a blink it seems. Thank you, I’m sure they’ll change again when they molt in a couple months. I’m just happy they’re from my own flock. I was surprised since Runners “don’t go broody” I’m good thanks, back to seeing life in stunning...
Not until 10/21 so I’m taking a leave from work. I have high contrast on my screens at 150% of normal size and am having difficulty even so. Oh well, I’ll get things done around the house and spend time with the ducks. Garden. Rough life lol. Take care Bob!
Thanks Wunda, yes a broody who isn’t even a year old! I have cataracts and am waiting for surgery. It’s a bit difficult to see so I stay off BYC in general until that’s resolved.
take care everyone!
Hi all. I hope you’re all well. We are finally getting eggs from the girls, but I had to block off the area behind the shed because apparently cement is ok for egg laying if the egg is hidden. Not an easy space to access for humans so no more of that. The flock went through a phase right after...
Good morning/evening all. Ducks are finicky. I have them a nice pond liner big enough for all to swim but do they use?! No! They use the kiddie pools instead. The drake has won over two Runners but the rest are still unimpressed. No eggs yet, but I’m seeing the oyster shell disappear so maybe I...
I’m beginning to think I should have named Jasper Randy instead. He’s freaking out the youngsters and they don’t want to succumb to his beastly advances. The older girls are happy little campers though.
I can relate! I moved the food so it’s not next to the water and I’m having less issue with that. I read somewhere that at least six steps between food and water helps and it’s true!
Thank you! I read about the water bucket somewhere so I can’t take credit but it’s a great way to keep the ducks out of their water. It still gets pretty gross but at least they aren’t pooping in it.
Good morning, afternoon, evening all. Sharing a pic of our new drake Jasper. We drove quite a distance to get him so the guy was going to just give him to me but I I wouldn’t let him do that. I got to see his flock and how they’re kept also. I think there’s more room here to roam but we’re not...
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it. We are home and everyone is in the side yard together. The girls didn’t beat the heck out of him but they looked at me like I was a traitor. I just told them they’d thank me later and left. Maybe some peas will win them over later.
So it’s that simple really? I have read quite a bit about duck hierarchy and it’s not supposed to be quite as rigid as chickens. I’ve also read that adding new members isn’t as brutal. Anyway, wish me luck!
Hi all. I’m in talks with a person about a drake for my girls. It’s a black Indian Runner/Blue Swedish mix. Any tips for introducing a drake to a bunch of girls?
