Normally if they already have a comb and wattles this early it will end up being a Roo. If they start turning red or pink...definitely a Roo. Good luck and maybe I will be wrong.
Ok...now these are about 14 weeks old. I am still thinking they both may be Roos but neither are crowiing. The BLRW tail does not look like a Roo to me and the partridge Wyandotte tail kind of flops down. I know the size and feathering says Roo but his attitude does not say Roo. I have added...
Here they are about a week and a half older. The BLRW comb looks the same but the wattles are a bit larger. He is still the smallest but I am leaning toward it being a Roo. And for the partridge Wyandotte, I am leaning toward hen. Any addl thoughts on these new pics. Thanks.
Yes thanks Lomine. I actually hatched mine from an incubator and only this one blew hatched so I have nothing to compare to outside of the other partridge Wyandotte. And of course the look totally different. Partridge is big, has more feathers including tail feathers, big feet but the comb...
Thanks Alex. I was afraid of that but hoping someone might respond with maybe he's a pullet. Lol. It is odd why most chicks turn out to be Roos. The ratio is way higher for Roos....or at least for me. :(
These 2 are almost 9 weeks old. Someone please tell me they are both pullets and that they are not cockerels. Thank you.:yiipchick
The BLRW feathered out first now has slowed down and is the smallest. It does have the laced pattern. I am thinking Roo but hoping not as he has seemed to slow...
Thanks Shezadandy. maybe you are correct , Minorca mix. She looks more like those but she lays a brown egg and not white. I am sure she is some kind of mix. She is a good and friendly hen. Thanks for all the info.
It has been a couple more weeks. These chicks are headed to 9 weeks old. I am sure the black French maran is a Roo as he is trying to crow. Does everyone still agree with the other. Partridge Wyandotte as a pullet and the BLRW a Roo? I have added 1 more pic. These are supposed to all be...
Actually she has a rose comb, read comb, red wattles and just white ears. I don't know if you can tell from these pics. I am sure she must be some type of mix.
Thanks for all your responses. I could not find anything on the net saying that some had darker faces than other so I trying to make sure. They are both shiny and reflect green in the sun. I already have one australorp and she has the red comb and wattles but she has white ears which also...
Purina pellets with Oyster Strong are great pellets. My hens love it and lay great strong eggs. I love it too cause the eggs taste so good and my girls are happy campers. I will continue to recommend this food to all my small flock friends. Thanks for letting us take this wonderful 30 day...
HI. I got these hens, they are supposed to both be austrlops but one has a darker face than the other. They are supposed to be 4 to 5 months old. What are y'all thoughts.
The pullets are just 4 months old today. I have noticed a couple of the 5 are finally starting to have their combs grow a little and turning a bit pink. I have read that when they suddenly group and turn red they should start laying eggs. They walk around his coop and he looks at them but...
Thanks. I am sure he would agree with you. Lol. You can take him for a walk, he follows you. He is very vocal and likes to do his feather down dance. He has not been with any hens yet but I have 5 16 week old pullets I plan to put him with. He is roughly 23 weeks old and I think I need to...
