I found papas poultry on the web and called to order hatching eggs. I picked them up at their farm. They were a little concerned about fertility and gave me a couple extra “just in case eggs”. I put them in the incubator that same night. 21 days later I had a 100% hatch.
Really impressed...
I candles eggs today this is my first attempt they are on day 7. Most had a dark mass on one side which didn’t move is that a good sign or a bad sign any help would be great
Thanks it's for my older bird and I have 6 chicks in a brooder so I am hoping this is all taken care of by march 20th when they move into the big girl coop
We had this same problem last year and lost two hens. They were bloody droppings in the henhouse and it appeared they were coming down with diarrhea. Everything I've read points towards cocci so I'm treating her for that once I get done I will give a preventative treatment to the entire flock
It looks like cocci, I picked up some medication this morning and put her by herself with medicate her water and food we will see how he is in the morning
I have a sick chicken, she is lethargic off by herslef and her craw is almost empty. I lost 3 birds in the last year acting the same way. Her butt is nasty and just has no energy. I gave her some antibiotics in her water however she has been on a downward spiral all week. I have 12 hens and...
We have 3 and during the winter they lay about 17 eggs a week. Last summer we normally got three a day. They have been great layers and the eggs seem to be on the extra large end of the scale!!
I just purchased 6 chicks olive eggers. Cream legbar and maran cross. Will any of them retain the auto sexing gene? I can see one of the birds is lighter in color however they all have the stripes
I just purchased 6 cream legbar maran cross chicks. I hope to get 3 hens out of the batch but time will tell how we did on that draw. I am adding on to my original coop for more room. Will these ladies start laying at 20 weeks? I haven't found much written on the legbars and have mostly...
I have noticed since it is been colder here in the low 30s The girls have been more huddled up on the roost. I am wondering if they will spread out this summer. And if some of them will move into the new coop
Ok now I'm confused. My chickens are in a coop with a run the coop is 24 sq feet with a run which is 6' by 14' I'm putting a second coop at the opposite end of the run it will be 15 sq feet. The chickens are not lock in the coop however there's is an automatic door which opens the run every...
Ok so I spoke with my wife about getting a few more chickens, she said we don't have room the the coop which I took as a challenge. Therefore when she left for the day I hit my scrap wood pile and began constructing a second coop at the opposite end of the run!!! Has anyone used two coops on...
Ok well she is a sweet little gal and she gets on the lower roost when she feels like it. But she marches to the beat of her own drum for sure. I am going to re configure my roosts and see if the use them more efficiently. Thank you all for the knowledge I appreciate it. MK
I have two roosting poles each are 6' long and are set at different heights the girlies usually roost with 8 on one pole and 3 to 4 on the other. Our silkie wants to sleep in the nesting box most of the time she is a bit of an odd ball. I think I have about 26 sq feet in the roosting area...
So I have a how much room question. We build a coop which is raised off the ground which is 5' by 6'. The ramp runs down to an enclosure which is about 6' by 14'. I have an automatic pop door which opens in the morning and the hens leave the coop and enclosure to free range in about 3 to 5...
