I'm guessing no one has had newly hatched chicks in an incubator lose lots of hair? lol They all seem healthy and happy,,, but lots of hair in the bator, moved 6 so far to brooder, ,have 4 more in bator hatched, waiting till they dry then moving them to brooder,,,
Not sure if I am explaining this, I know they are not feathers yet, this is probably about my 5th or 6th time now hatching in my incubator,, but this is the first time I have actually seen tiny hairs all over in my incubator,, I could take a picture but you won't be able to see it with my crappy...
Just an update,, new mama and babies are doing great. They are so cute to watch,,
Unfortunately I had to cull a newly hatched chick, I did lot's of research on here and discovered that it spent too long in it's shell and somehow the head hand grown/infused or something with it down, like how...
One of the hatched chicks in my incubator has sticky egg shell on her, I picked it off, looks like all dry and hard, it had zipped last night but had a hard time getting out of the shell with everything all dry inside it, her head is stuck in a down position like how she was in the shell. I...
So if I am understanding correctly, I can't use the straw/poop from this past winter for this summers garden? Sorry, so new to all this, just had my first garden last summer and thought I could somehow use my chicken poop/straw for this summer?
Sorry I have no idea Chickadee55, I'm sure someone will pop in and help ya out though.
Thanku OHLD,, I will keep my eye out for the others. My showgirl that is on the eggs is the sweetest hen I have, she lets me hold her anytime I want, she loves to be hand fed worms, crickets,, lol. When I...
Thanks hhgarris, I just might have to try that.
OHLD, I see all the other hens walking around the cage the mama is in with her babies. I have 5 BR, 1 leghorn, 1 wyandotte, 3 seabrights, those are the hens, 1 seabright is broody and has been on some eggs for 3 days now, I'm gonna let her go...
I had to go back to the beginning of this thread to re read how long to keep her and the chicks locked up. I'm so anxious for her to get her butt up off them so I can see them, lol. I need more patience,,,,, ugh the waiting
Yeah, still new to all this. They all look healthy and strong, looks like she only has 1 more egg under her from what I can tell, it has pipped though. My new mom showgirl has a lot of silk feathers under her even though her chest is bare.
I mean, downy like soft feathers,,
Baby chick is stuck to feathers under new mom, and also half an egg shell is stuck on her under feathers, should I use scissors and cut them loose or leave them alone and let new mom figure it out?
Edited to add, just went out there and cut them loose, also found 1 dead chick stuck to her butt :(
Went to take a peek this morning, new mom is still sitting on em, 3 chicks popped out and look so adorable, mom is raising up and picking or something at an empty shell, I should have grabbed it but I was just watching her through the closed door for a few minutes.
This is my first time...
