I am so excited! I have been on the hunt for the perfect 2nd dog for our household. I have been searching, posting, pound hopping, adoption event going till I am exhasted & defeated. But there was a listing this morning and I am meeting someone this morning to look at some Aussie puppies...
Here's the scoop. I have two young turkeys that I purchased as chicks last summer from Atwoods. I ended up with a tom & hen. Lucked out on that one! The hen has started laying a week ago, but is laying in random areas. I incubate chicken eggs all the time, but have never tried turkey eggs...
Heres the story:
Hubby works at a metal recycling yard by a river.
1. DH showed up to work, clocked in and when he goes outside of the shop, this sweet little guy comes running up to him out of nowhere. He picks him up for a pet and snuggle and decides he is going to 'rescue' him and go down...
I am looking for good quality/non-hatchery type day old chicks. I have not yet mastered incubating and although I see alot of wonderful eggs being sold I would like to just buy chicks.
Ok, I have several ducklings that are a few weeks old and it does not matter how big the waterer is. They will not stop drinking and playing in it until everybit of it is spilled or consumed. Literally. Everyone posts on here that you should have water always available. It is impossible...
Here's the scoop. I have about 30 Bantum chicks, all feather footed varieties that have been outside now for about a month. They are fully feathered and have been doing great until now. Every morning at 7am is when I feed/water them. Yesterday morning, I was called into work and was not able...
I hear everyone saying how sweet thier EE hens are. Mine have been crazy since the day I plucked them from the bin of dayold chicks at the feed store last september. I have raised them with a mixed flock of 9 (bantam cochins, silky, BA, Wht rock) and they have never wanted to be touched or...
Yesterday I brought home 8 new ducklings and a gosling. They were all getting along well last night when I went to be. This morning, the two ducks with crested heads are getting picked on on thier heads. What do I do? I really don't want to separate them from the flock if possible.
Ok. It's that time of year. We all know we have a common addiction....the love of fuzzy butts. We can't wait for babies when it's warm outside, so we order from our catalogs, order eggs online to hatch or stalk the local farm supply stores. How many babies do you have in your house right now...
I just got 10 of these cuties from the "straight run chicks" bin and have no idea what they are. They are a really pretty mahogany color with black coloring on their legs. Can anyone guess what they might be?
This afternoon while we were cleaning the coop and putting fresh straw in the run, we got a good view of Lucy's back end. It's a runny white, yellow yucky mess all down her backside. I have her in a crate next to the heater to warm her up before her bath. None of the others have anything like...
I have some shipped eggs on thier way to me as we speak. I will be setting them next week. I am putting my O% hatch on my marans from last week behind me and moving forward. Any one else settings eggs next week? I could use the company of buddies. I will be going the dry hatch method this...
I just hatched 2 ducklings and would like to know how long they normally would take to be able to stand and walk. This is my first time with ducks and I want to make sure they get a good start. Right now they are resting from thier hatch, but one seems better getting around than the other.
When I was a kid, my grandpa got some guineas and they immediately took off. My question is...if I were to raise some on the property and let them free range, would they stick around. Also, would they be able to be caught for the soup pot later??
This is my first time hatching coturnix eggs. Last night I had several pips by 6pm. This morning there are more pips but none zipping yet. Do they take as long as chickens to start zipping?
I have ordered a few Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and would like to know if anyone has input on the quality of these birds they have received in the past.
Now that I have developed an addiction to hatching my own eggs and will be using this method to supply my flock, I would like to know:
Do you vaccinate your chicks?
Which vaccines do you administer?
What age?
I want to be sure I am properly protecting them, but not going overboard....
