MidnightFriday caught opposum in the act of eating my Dutch Banty Roo for dinner.
He is in bad shape. Only one point on his previosly five point comb left, one eye swollen shut &
And has puss. Left foot curled up. Not broken tho.
Have been giving him electrolytes/water, he hasnot taken...
I get so frustrated trying to find a SIMPLE, easy coop plan for a small coop (to house two Dutch Banties).
It's frustrating because you type "free coop design" online and it's just advice on what to "plan for" - no actual plans OR
it's someone trying to sell you four ebooks for $39.95 and I...
I've tried to be a really good BYC forum member and search/read through all of the Mareks posts but none seem to describe what I am seeing.
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.): EE mutt. FIVE weeks. Weight unknown - same...
Part 2:
Daddy Roo was a Blue Wheaten EE. So handsome!
Momma 1 is a peach EE colored one (if you know the name of that please share)
Momma 2 is a white/black ?splash EE.
Momma 3 was a PBR.
Momma 4 was a Wyandotte.
They all shared nests so the only ones I know came from whom are the PBRs.
ALL...

As we know, I live in Central FL.
It got super cold here last night so I threw down a large handful of coastal (fine) hay
for Momma & her 4 week old chicks to nest in.
When I came back two hours later EVERY LAST PIECE OF HAY WAS GONE!!
They ate it!!!!
Am I to expect blocked crops now?
And...
Hope this is in the right board & hope I can explain my situation clearly enough.
Had a good old fashioned brooding. The hen hatched the eggs that she laid.
The chicks are now 5 weeks old
Should I vaccinate for Mareks?
I feed them medicated feed for the C.
The mother hen was a hatchery...
I got too proud.
My seasoned father & uncles & many others said, "You'll get snakes" when I told them of my dream to have chickens.
I've had chickens since August and just thought to myself last week, "You'll get snakes. I haven't had any stinking snakes!"
Well - this afternoon I decided to...
I've got two sets of clutches newly hatched by their own laying mommas.
Both Momma's are doing their job and incredibly protective of the chicks.
I am happy about that part but not happy about the prospect of the crazy pecking they've aimed my way!!
How much longer will I have to carry around...
My EE has been sitting on a large clutch of eggs for several days now. She shares a large horse stall with her three hen-sisters. I have a few questions:
1) I have a large rabbit hutch I can move her to - when I do, do I lock her in or allow free exit until day 21 arrives?
2) Do they ever...
I live in a rural town. Everyone tells me to sell my roosters at the local small animal auction.
I can't do it. I picture the innocent roosters being used as a bait cock in a cock fight.
Someone told me the really nice roosters head down to Miami to be used in sacrifices in the various...
Found a small oppossum living in a corner of the barn last night.
Will oppossums eat chicken eggs? My chickens live in a horse stall and the oppossum can have easy access to the eggs.
I have a wheaten hen & a white hen with black running through the white. Almost like a silver laced but I can't find the name of this pattern.
They are both Americaunas.
I THINK they both laid their first eggs today but they were not blue or blue-ish-green!! :o(
They were what I would call...
I am blessed with a HUGE EE Blue-Wheaten Roo.
He is 6mnths old and I have never seen such a tall fellow.
Thing is, I am scared to death of him. EE/Americauna's do not have the friendliest of faces.
To me, they look rather hawk-like. They look like they mean business.
Big Daddy's hormones...
If it is cocci would it be poop & blood mixed together or just a great big mass of pure blood?
I have a flock of 6 chickens. They bunk down at night in a stall in the barn. 5 of the chickens sleep in the feeding trough filled with pine shavings and one, a leghorn hen, sleeps up high on a tree...
