A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

You probably won't be able to get the honey, if they moved into the tree. But they will pollinate your flowers, and if you have a garden it will likely do better than in previous years as long as you have adequate water. As for aggressive, all colonies are different. I have traditional...

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

The hive I lost had a traditional wood top covered in tin. There were signs on the top that it must have had imperfect corners that allowed water to seep in. The one that survived had a plastic composite top that did not allow moisture to come through the top. I live in NC, so we don't get...

BYC Member Interview - Speckledhen **UPDATE 01-01-21 page 8**

I love these old pictures. I was ... 3rd grade, maybe 9 or 10? ... When we got our first chickens. Didn't have them as an adult until six or seven years ago, and wouldn't be without them again. Been away from BYC for a while, but very glad to find your story. Thank you for sharing.

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

That's great! This is my third year of keeping bees, they are fascinating. I only had two colonies, we lost one over the winter (most likely due to moisture issues) but the other is strong and I may split it in another week or two, when it warms up enough to get into the hive again.

    new to guineas

By that age, they should hang around. Mine roost in trees and patrol about 6 acres - but they know where home is. My Guineas rule the yard, the roosters are afraid of them.

Heritage Barred Rock or Rhode Island Reds

Looking for heritage Barred Rocks, Marans, and/or Rhode Island Reds. I can pick up anywhere off the I-85 corridor from richmond, VA to Atlanta, GA. Would rather have young pullets, but also would purchase hens under 2 years, and young RIR cockerel/rooster with RIR hens. Thank you!

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

I'm so excited - I have put a deposit down on two nuc's, and should get them towards the end of next month. Last year, I took a bee-keeping course from my local bee-keepers association, and bought two packages of bees. One promptly absconded - no where to be found after a couple of days. The...

10+Chocolate Egg Variety Package Blue,Black& Splash Copper Marans Great Bloodlines- 2/16/15 wk, loca

I just got my eggs today - first, I have to say what an awesome packing job! I had a poor experience previously buying hatching eggs, where the shipper didn't take half the care you did. Each egg was separately wrapped in layers of bubble wrap, securely taped. There was bubble wrap inside the...

OT: Treatment of Women In Hardware Stores (Yes, this is a Rant)

Oh, my - I have certainly gotten that attitude. What's funny is that I've worked in construction for over 20 years, and before that I worked in an auto repair shop for 5 years. So I know how to look up my own parts, which saves me returns at the auto parts store - yes, I've gotten parts handed...

Why do people choose to be vegans?

Well, my thought is WE are animal protein, LOL. I don't agree with his opinion, but I'm not a vegan, either. I've grown up around farm animals most all my life, and know than every species I've ever had can get cancer. But what he believes, and how he eats, doesn't affect me. It does make it...
