Chicken breeders or Folks in South Africa?

Thanks for the info. Obviously one has to declare the eggs as eating-eggs or even better as craft supplies. ;)

Chicken breeders or Folks in South Africa?

Thanks AndyCap. In the meantime I got an answer from the PoultryClubSA. Apparently there are no Dorking breeders left in South Africa :( They asked me to bring eggs from Germany.

    B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Thanks - I am also already trying that. In the meantime I got some response: According to the PoultryClubSA there are no Dorking breeders left in South Africa :( Someone else told me, that there are only few project/starter birds in not very good quality from UK or Holland. They asked me to...

In August and September we will spend some time in South Africa. I wonder whether it is possible to get some Dorking breeding...

Yes, the book only mentions the Coloreds, Silver Grays an Whites; and clearly prefers the Colored, as they are presumably the earliest (others believe the Whites) and the bigger ones.

Hello DaveK, very interesting. Just yesterday I read 'The book of the Dorking' by H.H. Stoddard from 1886. According to the book (page 18) you only find black and white colors at the Colored Cock, but no strawcolor on neck, back, saddle or wings is mentioned. The historic English Colored...

Hello poultrypalacewhidbey, most of the German Dorking are Silvergrey or a darker variety of Silvergrey (silberwildfarbig/ dunkel), as mine are, too. There are also some Reds (Rotbraun/ Goldhalsig) and only very few Whites and Cuckoo. In Germany the Colored variety is not recognized. I wonder...

Hello Ron, thanks for the warm welcome. I enjoy reading here at BYC about breeding Dorking. I struggle to write in English, so I am a frequent reader but not a frequent writer. In Germany there are very few Dorking breeders. I am afraid, that the Dorking in Germany are in a rather bad shape too...

    B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Hello Karen, congrats to 1000 posts! Maybe it is the bad photograph, but it seems as the hen does not have the typical cinderblock-form. Looks very much like my dark sussex.

    B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Hello Karen, the hen is beautiful, but not a 'Dunkel = dark' Dorking (also called silber-wildfarbig) as they are known in Europe. You are right, Dunkel is a darker version of silvergrey. Please have a look here: http://www.dorking.de/ , especally at section 'Kunst'. The pictures should help you...

Hi all, especially Kim, SoCal Dorkings and RareReedFancier, thank you very much for your warm welcome. Due to some technical problems, it will need some time (2-3 weeks) to show you some pictures. Presently I start breeding Dorking. Due to limited space I can keep only one line of Dorking...

    B.Y.C. Dorking Club!

Hello all, greetings from Germany to all Dorking-Breeders! I read through the posts and it has been very interesting to learn more about Dorking. While the English-Standard requires the same weight as the Australian Standard, the German Standard requires the following weight: Rooster 3,5...
