Can anyone tell me if this is a roo or hen. French Splash Maran

I I hatched 2 eggs back in December that were supposed to be blue splash marans. One I rehomed and that one is laying beautiful dark brown eggs. This one I kept and have yet to find any dark brown eggs in the nesting boxes. This one is larger and has a way larger comb but the comb flops...

Is there anyway to tame my Emu?

I've been working with my emu chick to teach it to be calm when I lift her from behind. She seems to be starting to understand the word settle which is what I say to her before I pick her up and when I set her down. She also likes for me to scratch her back and will lay down when I do that.

Emu pictures and stories.... post them here

This is Ethel Emu, though she might very well be Elmer. We have just decided to call her Ethel. She is one month old tomorrow. Ethel enjoys time out in the garden with me and our weiner dog. She has her own facebook page Ethel Emu with lots of videos and pictures of her first month.

    hello

Hi, I hatched out an emu chick a week ago. had 3 eggs and unfortunately only one hatched. The breeder I purchased the eggs from said he would buy back any chicks that hatched but now won't contact me, so I'll be looking to re-home this baby in the next 3 weeks. Meanwhile she/he has been a...

Emu Chick info on splayed legs

I gave it some collard greens today. Boy she/he is loving it. We've hung it so he/she has to pull at it and he/she is going to town on it. Everything I was reading said they don't necessarily start eating until 4 or 5 days after hatching. This little one is ahead of the curve, it started...

Emu Chick info on splayed legs

Thanks I've switched up the flooring from towels to a carpet. It has better traction on that for sure and today is up and moving about better. Still walking a bit like a drunk but I figure that is because it is only just 2 days old. It has started drinking water. I've got kale, carrots and...

Emu Chick info on splayed legs

Hello, I just hatched my first emu chick yesterday. I'm completely terrified of the chick getting splayed legs. I have the crate set up with non-slip shelf liner and towels on top of that. She hatched yesterday morning so is still not up walking around gracefully. Should I worry that...

Walking an Emu Chick on a Harness

Has anyone ever tried to walk an emu chick on a harness? I hatched my first one which will be going to a farm in a month. Meanwhile I'm wondering if there is a way to walk it for exercise besides being penned in the back yard?

Pullet or Cockerel or to early to tell?

I hope so. You made my day by thinking it's a pullet. I really want to keep this bird but can't have roosters in the city.

Pullet or Cockerel or to early to tell?

Thanks I'll go look to see if they are pointy. I really want this one to be hen so with that said I probably have a rooster. This one was a cracked egg that I duct taped during incubation.

Pullet or Cockerel or to early to tell?

Hi, I hatched out this easter egger chick about 4 weeks ago. Anyone have any guesses as to if it is a cockerel or a pullet? Or is it to early to tell?

    hatching an egg that cracked?

Thought I would pass this along to see if anyone else had ever tried this technique. On day 18 of incubation when it was time to remove the egg turner I accidentally cracked one of the eggs. It was the pointy end and pretty dinged up though no pieces of egg shell fell off and no fluid came...

My brown leghorn isn't laying yet?!?

My brown leghorn purchased in Mid March has not started to lay yet. I'm saying that because of all the hens I have she is the only one that is supposed to lay white eggs. My 3 barred rocks and my Rhode Island Red purchased at the same time are laying machines giving me an egg a day. Are...

Stopping hens from crowding into one nesting Box?

Thanks the other 2 are enclosed but more light gets into them. I'm going to figure out how to make them darker. Someone was in the bigger roomier box today but didn't leave me an egg. I guess just trying it out.

Thanks I can never figure out how to post on this forum.

Stopping hens from crowding into one nesting Box?

Nope they are all in a row together. The middle one is a bit bigger. The one they choose is the one in the darkest corner of the nest.

Stopping hens from crowding into one nesting Box?

all nesting boxes have sides and they can all reach the boxes. The boxes have a roost set up from the box just about 1.5 feet off the ground. The dishpan is actually sitting under the nesting boxes. Plus there is one stubborn one that lays an egg in the middle of the chicken coop floor...
