I'm curious if anybody ferments Nutrena Naturewise layer feed? The bag states that it has probiotics in it, and fermenting makes probiotics. Does anybody ferment Naturewise and does it make it a better feed?
I ordered a bunch of pinless peepers from Ebay. We put them on some of our flock and installed them correctly. Many of the birds through several days manage to get them off. I'm really trying here to not debeak but I am getting very close to having to. I don't know of another solution ATM...
We must all face a reality that chickens do have a pecking order and are often very mean and cruel animals to each other. Even the healthiest chickens given the best nutrients and feeds out there ---DO NOT CARE--- and will often on occasion kill another chicken. I've been raising chickens for...
I know it is "ideal" to use tap water that has been sitting out overnight to de-chlorinate the water. The thing I was thinking about was "why does it matter" if you are fermenting for 5 days anyway?
If I put feed into tap water and stir it daily, by approx 12 hours or so the chlorine will...
Has anybody tried to use any type of crushed granite or large sand from Home Depot or Lowes (for chicken grit)? If so what type do you use and how does it work?
I would like to avoid the premium $ grit from tractor supply if possible.
Thank you!
I didn't want to start 2 threads on this subject. Basically my family spends a FORTUNE on feed for our rather large flock. Just were introduced to fermenting so we are like kids in a candy store. Basically I have a 2 part question.
1) What is a good process with simple materials to ferment...
I'd like to have a showdown on feed types. We run a small hatchery and easily go through more than a bag of feed per day. Here's the scoop.
We have used Dumor
We have not used Layena
We have not used Nutrina
A) Dumor as we "hear" is a pretty good feed. MY experience is that it is OK. It...
I don't know whether to be pleased or displeased with the results.
It's basically a large incubator (for me), about 3ft wide by 2.5 ft long built out of wood and insulated. I have the entire thing insulated and being heated by 3 old fashioned light bulbs (total of 220 watt). I have a fan...
We ordered hens back in October of 2011. Well lo and behold, one of the hens turned out to be a rooster!!!
We are kind of inexperienced with roosters. This batch of chickens consists of 10 hens, 1 rooster. They are full Rhode Island Reds. We just don't know what to expect, how many of the...
