today is day 21, I'm using a brinsea eco20 at 99 degrees, temp did go down at lockdown to 98, so I'm hoping they are just making me wait a little longer
there was one tiny pip today but no movement, so maybe maybe maybe???????????
none of my sussex eggs seem to be pipping :( 11 eggs, only 6 made it to lockdown, and NOT ONE PIP! darn shipped eggs, so much anticipation and now nothing
beginning of day 19 here, out of the 11 shipped light sussex eggs, only 3 made it to lockdown with definite promise, left another 3 that don't look as good but I'm hopeful, just 3 would make me happy, heck I'll take 1 and call it good, darn shipped eggs
here's hoping for lots of baby pics this...
Thank you for your advice, kind words, and patience with newbie mistakes and pitfalls! I learn something new every day from you and others here, and am truly thankful.
I think from now on that's exactly what I'm going to do, avoid chickens and just get eggs. I think Martha is okay, maybe the chage in feed is causing the dirty feathers. I'm not so sure about the person that posted on CL, it sounds serious.
I guess I assumed that given the number of birds...
I sent them a message, as Martha, our hen, came from the same source. The feathers around her vent are dirty, and I'm worried I might have purchased a problem. :( I had no advice for them, but asked if they would keep me posted if/when they get any answers or suggestions. :(
We went to the NY State Fair on the last day, and somehow managed to bring home the oldest (not sure how old) hen in the whole show. It was either us or the "meat people" getting her, so needless to say my son and I brought her home. We hope she's still laying, as her vent looks good and he...
I don't want to highjack the thread, but the description calls them partial immersion thermometes, does that mean they have to be submerged to read accurately?
I just set 11 light Sussex eggs in my brinsea eco20 bator. This is my second hatch. I'm still struggling with temps, as I can't seem to find a reliable thermometer and I don't trust the one in the bator 100%. My last hatch, I got 9 out of over 20, so not great (all shipped eggs). Hoping for...
Your reply had me laughing so hard I spat tea out of my nose! To the lovely bra bator, I have done what you're doing (sans bra of course) before, and as long as you take it slow it can work. I had a shrink wrapped chick (due to me not knowing what I'm doing as of yet AND to crappy...
Thanks for your input! I just met my first Sussex roo this weekend at the NY state fair and fell in love with their size and their regal looks. Can't wait to have some light sussex beauties running around my yard! I have two cochin chicks in the brooder right now, so I'll get to compare. :)
That's great news! Any chance you have some hatching eggs for sale? I'd love to have some babies from your lines to compare with the ones I just purchased!
Hello everybody, I just ordered my first sussex hatching eggs and thought I'd introduce myself here. I can't wait to get some chicks! I'd love to hear from Sussex lovers about their disposition. Are they as laid back as Cochins? How is their egg production? I've been reading all I can find...
I realize this is an old thread, but I'm going thru my first eco hatch and was wondering, what does your thermometer read? the one that came with the incubator?
