Buff Orpington pullet with huge swollen thigh on Left leg- Help/advice needed!

So sorry for your loss, you did a great job caring for her. Just thought I'd mention that the injury looked strikingly like a tumor to me. I'm not sure what cancer rates are like in chickens. However, I am also a rat owner, and I've lost one to cancer. Her tumors were ulcerated due to rapid...

    MOLTING IN JANUARY?????????

I too have one hen that seems to be molting now. I'm in southern California and we've had some variable weather lately, not sure if that would do it. I always thought molting was triggered by changing day lengths. I've never experienced this before though so I'm not much help.

    San Marcos California City complaint!

Like others have said try Country Feed in Vista or possibly the Humane Society if you can't find any adopters. I adopted a hen from the SD humane society and know they had many roosters, they have a ranch out in Lakeside where they house all their farm critters.

Sebright rooster...should i get him some girls?

I'm in this situation as well, but I refuse to kill a perfectly healthy bird, so I'm biased in the other direction. I know roosters can be difficult but they are so full of personality and I love mine more than my girls. I took on 3 unwanted buff orpington roos, all brothers, so I am expanding...

    Red swollen faced hen

Thanks, I'll continue to keep her isolated for the rest of the day and see if her swelling goes down. Hopefully it's just an allergic reaction to something. I wouldn't be alarmed if she always looked this way, but it's definitely much redder and puffier than usual..

    Red swollen faced hen

I fed them a mash of carrot, blueberries, pepitas and greek yogurt yesterday and today. That was the only thing out of the normal. Although they get the yogurt on a fairly regular basis and that has never been an issue.

    Red swollen faced hen

Thanks ChickenPerson! I guess she's just an easter egger, I've never been a huge stickler for breeds, though! She's about 2 years old, so it couldn't still be maturity issue, could it? I have 2 others that are the same age and breed as her, and their faces are not this red and are not swollen...

    Red swollen faced hen

Thanks for your help drumstick diva! I would think if she got something in her eye that her eye would be swollen and maybe a bit mucousy? Her eyes seem to be OK, but the skin around them is the problem area...

    Red swollen faced hen

Hi all, I found one of my ~2 year old hens this morning in a nesting box with what looks to me like a swollen and much redder than usual face. She is not sneezing, wheezing, there is no discharge from her nasals or her eyes. But her face is pretty swollen. I immediately isolated her and...

New Introduction and a Soft Egg

Thanks for the help. She's around a year old, but I'm not exactly sure. The others are all around 2. And she has laid normal eggs as recently as yesterday. I haven't supplemented her with any oyster shells. She gets layer crumbles as well as some scratch and leftover fruits/veggies/yogurt and...

New Introduction and a Soft Egg

Hi all, I'm new here and having issues with a new adoptee in my flock. I have a total of 10 hens of all different breeds/origins. Last week (5 days ago) I introduced a new hen (she's skittish and submissive) to the rest of the girls. Trouble is that they don't seem to want to accept her, and...
