any ideals on additiona of a run

I think the 4x4x6 dog pen would work to house them for the first 10 months or so then you should put them in something at least 10x6

Our new shed to coop conversion!

Hey that looks great! When we moved to our new home in the country I turned an old shed into one of my chicken coops an I also built two runs onto two rooms of an old trailer that the previous owners left and made two more pens. Cool to see someone else doing something similar!

New home owner - previous owners left their chickens!

My suggestion would be to put one nesting box in for every 2 hens. Put the laying boxes lower than your roost because most of the time they will roost as high as possible. I like to use milk crates as laying boxes with hay for bedding. Fairly straight tree limbs or 2x2s or 2x4s make for good...

    Nesting Boxes????

I like to use milk crates as nest boxes filled almost completely with hay as the hens will compress they hay down to their liking and sometimes they will go all the way to the bottom if you don't have enough hay.

When should I remove unhatched eggs?

On the 21st 2 of the 6 eggs my game bantam was sitting on hatched. The other four have not hatched and I was wondering since it has been 2 days should I go ahead and remove the eggs or is there still a chance they could hatch? All of the eggs were laid close to the same time and she sat on them...

Does anyone else have Potbelly pigs?

I just got me one today. I decided that I wanted one about a week ago and I found a guy in a nearby city who was moving and didn't want to take him with and he gave him to me. He is a mini as he only weighs about 40 pounds. His name is Mortimer.

I had a silkie chick that is a was a little over 2 months old that died last night. I noticed yesterday that it was very inactive, just sitting and kinda drawed up. Review by '' on item 'Dominique'

I have a 3 of these in my flock and they are definitely the most friendly. One of them will often jump up and peck at the feed scoop as I walk into the run. Two of my three are rather old so I don't think they lay much, but the younger one is a very dependable layer. These are great hens for the...

    What breed are these hens?

Thanks everyone for your input. After reading these replies and doing a bit of research, I believe the orange one to be a new Hampshire and the others to be Dominique.
