    Chicken Breed Focus - Brakel

We never sold juveniles that I can remember. If you have some available though we unfortunately lost our only rooster in the snovid-21 fiasco and I would be interested in possibly getting some more.

    Serama Bantam Tips

A closed in coop with a lamp is plenty. We have had one get frostbite but that was because he refused to go in at night no matter the temperature. In the end it makes the comb look a little funky but doesn't hurt them overall if it does happen.

    Serama Bantam Tips

We raise serama in Central Texas. Those few days it gets into the teens at night they can get frostbite on the tips especially one with a larger comb like yours. If they have an insulated fully enclosed coop though it shouldn't be a problem. Our serama do just fine in the cold but some that we...

6+ Onagadori Japanese Longtail Hatching Eggs

She sells her eggs on ebay still. I have bought a few from her there.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Brakel

Very excellent. We do have a great availability of edible bugs and plants so i think that can depend as much on the range as the ranger.

    Rare Breed Wish List

Brakel are here. I have some. The original import flock was destroyed by foxes but a few are still around.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Brakel

I raise brakel here in Texas and love them. They are very reliable layers and the roosters are very protective. Pretty flighty and not one for human friendship much but great free rangers. Most of the year here they don't even eat chicken food as they stay busy foraging all day.

If you could only have ONE breed?

Seramas. Hardy, self sustaining, friendly, never know what you might hatch.

    Seramas and winter in NY?

Smooth feathered Serama do fine at those temperatures. I am in Texas but have several Serama and one rooster in particular that has slept outside down to 10 degrees and no ill affects other than some comb frostbite. He refuses to go in at night and sleeps on a rock in the run. That being said I...

    Brahma Rooster Temperament

I would say that rooster temperament is affected by circumstances quite a bit and they tend to be seriously bothered by toddlers. I have 5 kids and two still in the toddler stage. Roosters hate toddlers. I think the manic and unstable energy that toddlers give off tend to scare them so they go...

    American serama thread!

Isnt the lethal short leg gene present from the Japanese that was used in creating serama? This causes approximate death at ten days if present in both adults.

    Serama housing Question

Big plenty. They dont take much room.

    Serama housing Question

I keep mine outside with little to no heat to about 15f. I have one rooster that refuses to sleep inside where the heaters are even when it's well in the teens. His comb has lost a few points from frostbite but other than that no ill effects. They are far more hardy than people give them credit...

    Looking for show quality seramas

Search for serama on the Killeen temple craigslist. Guy named mike is selling some. They don’t come any better than his. He won 12 out of 13 classes in the last serama show here. I have several of his myself. It’s also reasonably close to you.

    Serama HElP!!!!

For what it's worth I have had my very large bresse hens brood several clutches of serama and never had one squish their chicks. One of my hens is even quite substantially spurred. Seramas are much more hearty chicks than other larger breeds I find if you get good stock. The only thing is never...

    Opinions on Croad Langshans

They are one of my favorite breeds. Huge but docile. They make great mothers as well. The rooster is a match for just about anything. Mine has beaten hawks off the yard many times.

    Huge chickens!

They can be incredibly huge but they are extremely docile in my experience. They are primarily a meat breed and mine did go broody. They come in some of the most beautiful colors as well. I have some exceptional breeders near me I just don't have any right now.
