Went out this morning to check things out. Heard a chirp. Thought it must had came from a bird outside. Opened up the incubator and found this little fellow. I was getting ready to put the egg turner back in. Guess I won't do that. Signed: Happy New Dad
Maybe will have to wait for warmer weather. Thanks for all the advice. For now I'll just keep waiting and see. I'll let y'all know if anything breaks (out).
They are out in a shed. Shhh. It's a secret. My Wife doesn't want anymore. I plan to surprise her. It has got down the freezing a few nights. But when I check the it say around 99.5 more or less. Got a thermometer in the older one. It's designed for incubating. No forced air in the older one...
This is day 23 of incubation. Just a barn yard mix of eggs. There are in an older 'Little Giant' with egg turner. Figured things just didn't work out. So I took one out and dropped on a rock to see how rotten it was. To my surprise it was still alive and developing. But is was a long ways from...
I'm basicly having the same problem. Was fine yesterday. One can barely walk today. They are in a Run with shelter. I have turned off the light over a week ago. Haven't been to cold. It's a Pekin maybe 6 weeks old. Feeding it Layer crumble.
Kind of hard to see the beard on one. Sometimes when it struts you can see it. Other wise you have to pull the feathers back. Looking at them I'm not should the one with the longer beard is the biggest. I'll have to weigh them again. I'll also have see which one was sitting on the nest. I...
Got two White Broad Breasted Turkeys. Also go one female duck. The duck has been laying solid white eggs since last summer.
The turkeys are now one year old. Both have beards so I figured both are male. Lately we been getting some eggs the same size as the duck eggs but with red specks on them...
Many years ago when I was a Bachelor living in a small camper trailer the company I worked for gave everybody Butterballs. My Mom already had her turkey and no way was that big bird going to fit into my little oven. So I carved it up like a chicken and cooked a little each day for a week. It was...
Sure they can. That's where most breeds come from in the first place. Some like cornish cross have problems breeding due to their being over sized. But even them have laid fertile eggs.
LOL, I just about fell out when I saw that clip. LOL. Thanks made my day.
Sounds like this 'owner' of the rooster is unable to care for chickens at home.
So it was left there.
But a rooster like that can not be at a place open to the public.
I've had roosters like that. Taste pretty good when...
I've known people that have raised raccoons and they found they make excellent pets. It's all in how you raise them. I've also known people with squirrels, bob cats and even one trucker that kept a badger in his truck. Not sure how the badger worked out. Wouldn't want to try it. Wouldn't take...
If it's a male it will start to grow a beard after 5 months.
Hope things work out for you. Don't know what state you are in. States all have different laws. If you don't keep it in a pen I don't see how they can say you are in possession of it. And you can't help if a wild animal goes in your...
I've raised the Cornish Cross before. This last time I went into a farm store to see if they had any, they had Cornish Rocks. I asked the guy what the difference is. He said he didn't know. He just said there are many breeds of Cornish. These look just like the Cornish Cross I've had before...
Thanks for the help. I wasn't even thinking it might be some other kind of bird. My Wife says she has seen some hawks around and I have too now that I think about. Guess i'll keep a shotgun handy while home. Also going to lock up all the birds till spring. Not much for the to eat in the yard in...
I got or should now say 'had' 10 Guineas. I also got 12 chickens and two Peacocks. Had them all over two years with out any problems. Some times the guineas and peacock come and get in the pen at night and sometimes not. I'm a truck driver so I'm gone a lot. My Wife tends to them. After being...
Problems is, it's very hard in this area to find anyone selling meat birds. I just had 14 cornish cross but lost them to a raccoon. I was out of town for a week and the
Wife was taking care of them. Hadn't had any problem since I built a totally inclosed run 5 years ago. But while I was gone...
