Which turkeys will fit thru an automatic chicken door

I’ve had chickens for 10 years or so. I’ve always wanted some turkeys, tried poults twice and they died before being old enough to go out in the chicken yard. I have around 30 chickens, mostly bantam size and a pair of peacocks on about 1/3 acre. Wondering if palms or other heritage turkeys will...

    Safeguard question

So, my chickens wouldn’t eat the pumpkin or seeds ;). I dosed everyone with Safeguard. Does it need to be repeated? I know with dog/cat roundworms they would need a second dose in 10-14 days. I haven’t seen worms but have new peacocks that eventually will free range with my chickens.

    8 week old turkey died.

I noticed diarrhea the last couple days on my 3 turkey poults. I’ve had them since they were about 1 week old. They eat Purina game bird starter, 30% protein. They spend days out in the garden where there is plenty of shade and are indoors in a large dog crate at night. Found 1 lying dead...

Mixing Tom poults into chicken flock

I acquired 3 Royal palm turkey poults about a month ago. All 3 displayed for the first time this morning. Just curious if the breeder was able to sex them before selling them to me. Also I plan on integrating them into my chicken flock. Will 3 toms be ok together when grown? And will my...

    It’s soooooo ccccccccoooooollllddd!

We are expecting single digit night temperatures and highs for several days in the teens. I hate the polar vortex! I have several silkies and seramas ( and Polish) that don’t tolerate the cold as well as larger and normal feathered birds. Does anyone know at what temperature I should bring...

    Lethargic rooster

I have a 1 1/2 year old longtail rooster who I found huddled in a corner of the coop this morning. I just brought him inside for the night. He has a soft squishy crop, not very full and a bit less full than it was this morning. He won’t eat or drink and passed a small amount of watery green...

    Mareks???

I have a 4 month old cockerel that has a progressive neurological condition getting to the point after the last month to where he can no longer walk. I had a couple pullets die last December from Mareks, they were emancipated. This little bird is still eating and drinking well. I will have a...

    Drunk cockerel

I have an old English cockerel about 4 months old that over the past 4 days has become increasingly uncoordinated. This morning he was stumbling like a drunk. He is also more content to be held than usual and lays his head down on my hand . He lives with 4 2-month old silkie/serama chicks...

    New poults not eating/drinking

I just got a couple 3 day old poults that won’t eat or drink. They aren’t very active either, probably from not eating. I have never had a problem with chicks eating and drinking. Poop looks normal, picked up locally so no shipping, just driving. Wouldn’t eat scrambled egg or moistened...

    Easter hatch problem

One of my serama pullets hatched an egg this morning. Happy Easter! The problem is, I’ve never had a broody raise her own chicks outdoors as I didn’t build for this 7 years ago. It’s getting down to 29F tonight and I don’t know whether I should bring her in tonight. We have the next 5 days...

I'm sure they are the same sex, not which sex. Suspecting cockerels.

COVID-19 is bad news for chickens

I’m seeing lots of ads for people wanting to buy laying hens and pullets. I went to TSC today to get scratch and cat food and there were no chicks, only ducklings (7 empty cold tanks). I am concerned that all the hoarders are buying chicks and chickens that they aren’t prepared to care for...

    Incubating royal palms

I have the opportunity to get some royal palm eggs locally. I just got a Nurture Right 360 this spring and have hatched a batch of my eggs in it. Will my incubator turn and hatch these eggs? Any special considerations?

    TSC bantams from Hoover’s

Went to TSC a couple days ago to get feed and shavings for the 14 chicks I hatched out 3 weeks ago. The bantam bin was so crowded with adorable tiny chicks. I already have waaaay more chickens than I need BUT they were soooo cute. Two are orange silkies-1 has a broken leg so it was free cause...

    It’s my Birthday!

Thanks to everyone sending Birthday wishes, you’re really beating out my family. Talked to my mother this morning and she had forgotten. We are going out for seafood dinner today. Keep your fingers crossed that we don’t pick up the dreaded Coronavirus!

    Chicks with diarrhea

I have 14 13 day old chicks that I hatched from my own chickens. Several of the chicks have very soft dark caramel to chocolate (yummy) colored stools (eewww, not yummy at all). They are being fed medicated feed and water with probiotics. They all look and act normal. They are bedded on pine...

Anybody close to NW Arkansas speak up!

I am in Rogers, AR. I see so few Arkansans posting here. For my own benefit I’d like to see which BYC members are near me, say within 75 miles that might have birds to sell or be interested in possibly buying birds from me. I want to meet my neighbors! Where are you all?
