Just a note with regards to the super glue. Yes it works great, and yes, it's original use was for skin. Most of the time there are no problems, BUT do keep in mind that it also seals everything into the wound. If there are any nasty bacteria in there you have just sealed them in too. I have...
Thanks TropBeaucoup, I will see if I can try a bag of the pea formula to see if they like it better. I think a lot of the powder in the feed is the flax meal. I can't imagine they would have a slower growth than they currently are, seeing as they are just plain not eating those all important...
With regards to the feed from homestead orgaincs, I have been using both their grower and layer feeds. My only complaints are that the chickens avoid the roasted soy beans, which are the main protein source of the feed, and also refuse to eat all the powdery stuff it contains. I overcome some...
Most of the time eye issues clear up nicely as long as you clean out the offending object (dirt, sand, stick...) and keep up with treatment. Don't expect it to be better after only a few treatments, follow through at least a week. Should improve quite a bit after a few days. If she were to go...
It's possible that she got something in her eye that is causing major irritation. You can flush under the eyelids with saline solution (like the one sold for contact lenses at any pharmacy). Don't skimp on this, really flush it out the best you can. You can use polysporin eye drops for people to...
Great information. I will be trying it out first with my hen for her laying issues, if all goes well I'll give it a try for the new boys once they are old enough. I suppose cost is going to be a determining factor with regards to the number of roos I try it with, but I will be sure to report...
Has anyone else used the suprelorin? I am very curious to know what other peoples results were. I wonder if it has an effect on their plumage....will the roosters still look like they should? I would imagine that they may have a smaller comb and wattles, but anything beyond that?
Were there any...
Wow, thank you so much for the update. That is fantastic info. I had started looking into the product because I have a hen with thin shelled eggs. Despite dietary changes and loads of extra calcium she continues to have thin shelled eggs and I worry that it is going to lead to infection or a...
My D'uccle from Ideal hatchery laid her very first egg today. An impressive 35g! The two bantam wyandottes have been laying eggs that weigh from 38-45g, and they are at least 1/3 larger than the little d'uccle hen.
I would doubt that lice or mites hiding in the coop would be very active in these temperatures. On the birds themselves sure, it's nice and toasty there, but I have a hard time imagining that the bugs could be hiding out in freezing temps and feeding on the birds when they roost.
I am not an expert on the subject, but if you do a search for it here on BYC you will find plenty of info.
I don't think there is much you could have done about it, some people try to treat it with antibiotics, but usually all that does is buy them a bit of time as most cases relapse.
Egg yolk peritonitis comes to mind. If you still have her body you might be able to check for it by wetting and seperating the feathers on her abdomen and looking for a yellow colour.
Thanks!
Anyone else from Montreal?
My chickens are under the radar, I have talked to all the neighbours and no one minds, but I'm curious to know if anyone else in the area has had longer term success?
