Where to buy baby chicks in Minnesota!

Anyone know of places in Minnesota (co-ops, farm stores, anywhere) that has baby chicks on hand currently? We got some a week ago through combining an order with a friend and now my DH really wants more, preferably Buff Orps and female. I'm in central MN borth of St. Cloud. Thanks!

    Messy Chicks Spread Feed Everywhere!

Do you guys have this problem too? I have 8 one-week-old chicks, and we're using one of those metal feeders with the mason jar up turned. I will turn the bedding (pine shavings) and fill the jar up in the morning and by noon they have spread the feed all around the feeder. I see them eating the...

    My new chicks!

We picked them up from the Co-Op on Monday and have got them settled in to their brooder in the laundry room. We have 3 Barred Rock, 3 Gold Star, and 2 Easter-Eggers. They sure are fun to watch. They're about 4 days old and getting their wing feathers in. The dog and cat are really confused...

How Many Weeks Until Most BRs are Feathered Out?

Is there an average time it takes for most Barred Rock pullets to feather out? I plan to keep them inside until they are feathered, as I'd read once they are feathered then they can move out to the coop. Is this ok?

I have idyllic visions of puttering and weeding in the garden with my chickens at my side. Then I have absolute nightmares about the chickens just destroying...

    Box vs. Round brooders?

I'm getting my brooder ready (it's never too early, right?) and I plan to use a big cardboard box. It's heavy-duty cardboard and is about 3'w x 3'l x 18" deep. I figure this will work for a couple weeks until my 6 chicks get too big for it. My big concern is if I need to worry about a chick...

Is 100lbs of chick starter too much for 6 chicks?

I've ordered 6 chicks, 3 barred rocks and 3 red/gold stars. The local feed stores only sell in 100 lb bags. Am I going to have extra chick feed left over when it's time to switch to layer feed? Or can I mix the chick starter with scratch or layer feed? The chicks will be in the brooder for the...
