Meet Joshua, The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte In Northern Colorado

The goat will definitely enjoy keep those weeds down for you. We're pretty new to gardening and are learning as we go how to best use the greenhouse. Even so, I'm pretty sure we had about 250 lbs of tomatoes last year. The girls provide us will ample compost. We've been able to grow...

Meet Joshua, The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte In Northern Colorado

Thanks, Liz! We may need to call on you. Yes, I hired a heard of goats to do some chemical-free weeding and clearing. They really got rid of the ladder fuels in the draw and cleaned things up well. They were so entertaining that I was sad when they went to their next job. Stop by any time...

Meet Joshua, The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte In Northern Colorado

Hi, Joshua was one of three BLRW roos I had last year. I took a shot at finding them a home. They weren't really any louder than the hens' egg song, but the wear and tear on the girls was too much. Unfortunately, we ended up taking all three to friend to butcher. No more straight runs for...

Mild unilateral (right) lameness and moveable masses on the foot of a 10-month old hen

Thanks so much, Eggcessive! After soaking and cleaning the foot, I did discover that there was in fact a tiny, 2mm scab that had a ring of "proud" granulation tissue around it. My husband and I performed Little Red's surgery tonight. She was a wonderful patient and seemed to sleep through...

Mild unilateral (right) lameness and moveable masses on the foot of a 10-month old hen

Little Red has been very subtly lame for about a week. It has been hard for me to decide if she was really lame. Today I managed to catch her to inspect her feet and found that she has masses in the webbing both sides of her largest (middle) toe of her right foot that can be seen from above and...

Ezra, The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Rooster Is Looking For Love

Hi, Unfortunately, the other two roosters were becoming too aggressive toward Ezra and each other. I've had to butcher the other two roosters, one for humane reasons due to trauma from fighting, on an emergency basis yesterday. Took the fun right out of things for me, as I get too attached...

Ft Collins, CO change to restrict roosters where previously allowed

Hi dretd, Kudos. I think you deserve great credit here, as it has probably been your sound data and even-handed delivery that have led to this progress. I may see you at that next meeting! Billie

Ezra, The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Rooster Is Looking For Love

Meet Ezra, the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte roo from Bellvue, Colorado. I'm told he is a good example and would make a nice addition to a breeding program. He's got nice Andalusian lacing, contrasting black hackles and a very shiny, dark russet saddle. I can't seem to get a picture that does him...

Meet Joshua, The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte In Northern Colorado

Here's Josh, a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte who's looking for a flock of his own to care for. He's very stately and I just love his russet wings and saddle. His pictures don't do him justice. He is a youngster from a June 8th, 2013 hatch. Josh is in Northern Colorado, in the Fort Collins and...

Is this a Welsummer or Brown Leghorn?

Thanks, donrae. She is truly my happy little accident. She doesn't even mind having those combs Bag Balmed when it's cold. Merry Christmas! Billie

Ft Collins, CO change to restrict roosters where previously allowed

That's a very good point! The animal control folks could probably testify to vindicate the roosters. Nice to find some other locals, too. Merry Christmas! Billie

Is this a Welsummer or Brown Leghorn?

Thanks everybody! I was pretty sure when she was little that she wasn't a Wellie, but she has turned out to be one of my best layers and personalities. Merry Christmas! Billie

Ft Collins, CO change to restrict roosters where previously allowed

Hi, Just ran into this thread. I live by Lory State Park, but own a house on North Grant in FC. It occurs to me how much louder my 18 hens are about egg laying than my three roosters are about crowing. It's funny, these sounds actually add to the atmosphere that I enjoy. I agree that someone...

    Who's that girl?

Here's Fanny. She seems similar to a girl on a recent post. However, she lays HUGE chocolate brown eggs. Any opinions on her roots? Thanks! Billie

Is this a Welsummer or Brown Leghorn?

Ok, here she is now. I think she's about 6 months old and she lays a very large olive egg every day, although she's petite relative to my Easter eggers. She's friendly and chatty and supervises all of my chicken chores. Whatever she is, I would take a dozen more like her.

Nothing like watching your babies grow. And yes, I think they do feel safer near you. Mine are 16 weeks now and they still like to be where I am, even the cockerels. Enjoy!
