I have been raising barnyard type chickens for years but like to get into Seramas. I have been watching many Serama youtube videos and notice that many people, especially in the asian videos, have a raised nest box mounted on the wall. Almost like a bird house. Is this a special requirement for...
I miscalculated the days and I am on day 17 instead of day 14. The eggs have been in the eggturner all this time, I am reluctant to take the eggturner out at this stage! Will they hatch in the egg turner, did anyone ever hatch eggs in the turner?
I understand that I can't interbreed bobwhites with cots, and expect offspring that can reproduce.
What about A&Ms, Jumbo pharaohs, regular browns and golden manchurians Can they be in one aviary and does the off spring still fall under the 'coturnix' umbrella that can actually reproduce?
I got some free quail but am not sure whatmkind I got and I am worried I hqve 2 males or two females.. I hope its a male female couple...

This is the mini eco I have, I did not use the yellow bottom piece this time.
Instead I used an cardbox box approx. 18"x18" x 6" high. The box was holding computer equipment at my...
My chicks hatched shortly after Christmas. I am still waiting for an egg eventhough they have completely feathered and have wattles etc. They look like full grown hens. I have had red sex links and leghorn crosses they all started laying around 4-5 months.
Is this normal for BCM's?
I usually hatch in my brinsea mini eco and always with eggs "laying down". I am borrowing my friends little giant with egg turner and when I candled I noticed all the embryos are located close to the air sack. This was new to me because in my brinsea mini eco, where I hatch without egg turner...
I am in the Bahamas and my wife complains about my baby chicks in the den or garage. Can I put one week old chicks in my outside brooder with lamp with night temps of 70-75? I made a raised, enclosed wooden box, with some pine shavings on floor and hanging heat lamp. Roofed etc.
Like a...
Our local school has an empty existing poultry house with concrete floor that they would like to use for some layers. What is usually used in this situation as floor litter. Can they use sand or beach sand?
Me and my brother in law spotted these little chicks walking motherless in a very seedy part of town. We managed to catch them. Hopefully one of them is a hen I could use one to hatch some of my brown layer eggs. These feral chickens tend to get broody a lot.
Every time I incubate I seem to have a lot of dripping eggs or eggs that go bad.
I use the brinsea eco and I use my own backyard eggs. Out of 9 to 10 eggs I usually have 3 or 4 hatching,
around 3 stinkers/drippers and a couple that never hatch. Is this my chickens or is my incubator dirty...
For those of us chicken nerds in more tropical climates, this might be interesting... I never knew!
I talked to some old timers and they say banana trunks can be used too, after the bananas have been picked and the stem is supposed to cut down anyway!!
This is my waterer
the white jar is leaking, I am nowhere near a farmstore and online ordering is ridiculous here with added duty (bahamas) Is there a food store jar I can replace them with that have same size opening? I tried mayonaise jars but didnt fit...
I got my first broody! I was thinking of moving it because its in a nestbox thats quite high. She's been in it for a week now, so I am guessing its serious. I gave her 2 fertile eggs to sit on, from a batch thats in my incubator, just to try. I wanted to move her to my little pullet house, its a...
I crossed red stars with a leghorn/easter egger mix, very dominant white.
7 hatched pure white and this rooster came out brown. Is this a throwback from whatever mix the redstar is? Can someone tell me what kind of cross or breeds they see in him? He is 4 weeks.
Thanks
Only brown roo, with...
