I love pullets. They are so adorable when they are at that age! What breed do you have? Have you raised them since they were chicks?
I have 5 adult Orpington hens and 5 chicks (which are 1 week old).
Hi there Animal Madd!
How lovely. I'm not sure if your Isa Brown will retain those beautiful feather colours when she grows up. I'm new to chicken keeping.
It's so nice you got different colours. They seem to get along well.
Thanks for posting this. I will be very helpful to me, especially in terms of the roost/poop board and the nest boxes. Thanks so much for the photos and explanation. You have done a wonderful job.
Welcome MeringoGirls!
What state do you live? I'm a migrant in Australia too. I'd love to go to Scotland one day.
There are lots of aussies here on BYC.You can go to the threads:
Australia - six states and that funny little island...
5 chicks was the total. Thanks for everyone's advice.
Mums and babies are well. The two hens seem to be sharing motherhood, so far no problems.
I removed the other eggs which started smelling rotten. I haven't done an eggtopsy to see what the cause was.
MyHaven,
Only 5 little bubs. No more chicks hatched. All the other eggs started smelling bad, so I removed them from the nest today. I decided to see how the two hens would go sharing the playpen with the chicks. They seem fine. Chicks have been moving from one hen to another, both are showing...
5 newly hatched Orpington chicks from eggs I was donated/bought.
Mums are sharing a playpen inside the house.
The blue Orpington on the left had 2 white chicks (one white chick is not on view), while the buff Orpington had the 3 cuckoo babies.
Very cute Zerinala!
Here are my recently hatched 5 Orpington chicks with their mums (you can only see 4 chicks in the photo). They are sharing a playpen in the house, while I wait for their proper nursery to be built. I gave them watermelon and they loved it! The other dish has mashed boiled egg...
Hi TXchickmum, nice to see your photos. Your garden looks very neat with the chickens out and about!
I must try to get some wine barrels to grow berries and herbs. They are quite expensive here where I live though.
