I'm trying to figure out if I can find wheat middlings locally since shipping and handling isn't cheap now days . I need it for mealworm substrate. Does anybody know of anything in stores I might find . Wheat middling is best to use so I won't have a problem with grain mites again .
A broody hen will sit in the nest box and not leave it . She'll puff up her feathers and make screeching and growling noises at you . One of my buff Orpingtons goes broody constantly , she'll do everything but peck me . My buff will also puff up and growl at her sister hens too. Did you...
Ok , it sounds like Millie is a bully then . Try removing her from the flock for 4 days, out of sight and then when she is put back with the flock she'll be knocked down a notch in the pecking order . If she continues to do it after you have put her through the bully treatment and you fear that...
Are you sure Millie is a hen cuz that sounds like roo mating behavior. Sometimes if there isn't a rooster in the flock a hen will take that place , in some cases there's been hens that will actually try to crow . How old are your girls?
5 of my hens are 4 months old , they are 2 production reds and 3 black australorps. I have 2 buff orpingtons that are 18 weeks old. So what my question is should I open the nesting boxes? Nobody has layed yet but 1 of my australorps has a very red comb and wattles.
I have 3 Production Reds but this one is the only one with a really pinkish and pronounced looking comb , also has the biggest legs and feet as well. Do you think it's a hen or a Roo? ... Edit : Ok so I wont be going back to that feed store since I just called him and he lied to me when I...
I have 8 chickens and live in southern Louisiana where it gets pretty hot during the summer but also humid as well. I have no shade in my backyard either.
I have 3 Black Australorps , 3 RIR and 2 Buff Orpingtons .
I was trying to figure out how big to make it , some people say 2 square feet...
I have dog-eared pressure treated fence boards left over from building a 6 ft fence and I was thinking about using them to build my chicken coop. Would that be safe for us and the chickens?
Our 2 day old B'ebe's ... 3 Black Australorps and 3 Rhode Island Reds .. We're new to raising chickens and are having fun watching them already. I love it when one gets something out of their feed and everybody starts chasing her , so funny.
