Thanks to all for your responses. I cleaned out the cedar shavings and will get hardwood shavings today.

we just incubated 20 eggs and 15 hatched. this was our second try, the first time one hatched but was sick. Out of the 15 chicks two have since died. They looked of good size and at first were active. Any suggestions as to why?

can you use cedar shavings instead of pine shavings in the brooder box?

I did try to candle a couple of the eggs and I could not see through them. Does it matter that they are brown eggs for the candeling? We are going to wait until the weekend to see what happens. Do you thing we should wait longer than that? Thanks.....

Thanks... We did use the thermometer that came with the incubator. We will get a new one and what about the humidity level?
