Update: she now won't eat or drink and doesn't seem aware of anything I also found some worms on her bottom and she looks like she might die has anyone got any advice of anything I can do!!!! Or. Any ways to make her eat or drink
My hen once had fowl pox and it looked a bit like that but it could just be dried blood if it is fowl pox give ur hen some garlic water as that usually helps and hopefully it will clear up. Here is a photo of my hen when she had fowl pox
My three year old hybrid is very unresponsive unlike her usual self and won't eat I managed to give her some garlic water but that was it. She has poo all round her bottom and I'm thinking of giving her electrolyte but not sure how much to give her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, she...
I don't know if this is a similar situation but I had two hybrids and when one of them died the other went into a sort of shock to. I got some new hens for her but she didn't lay an egg again and seemed to be quite ill for a month or so. Hope ur hen gets better to!
I had two hybrids and when one of them very tragically died due to the house collapsing the other stopped laying for good and I think it was from trauma. Anyway she is now 4 years old and looking extremely healthy!
I have a hybrid who is 3 years old and still doing fine but she stopped laying for good about a year ago, I don't know if this is to do with the fact that she is a hybrid?
Lyra my hen payed an egg today so happy thanks for all the advice I think the reason was stress and missing her buddy because I still haven't found her secret egg nest if she has one! Thank you so much for all the advice
Thanks for the article it was really good. I agree I don't think it's her age but either mourning or shock of the new pecking order. Thank you so much for all the advice!
I think that birds mourning has a lot of truth to it a great article. My bird who lost her buddy hasn't laid for a week not as upset as your hen as she will go free range and preen but for a while she wouldn't even touch grapes! Birds are more human than you would expect.
As she's only two and a very healthy bird I don't think that her age is a problem but I agree for other birds that could be a reason. I've just checked and I don't have ACV in my larder but I'll get some tomorrow.
Chickens are supposed to start laying at about 17-18 weeks so 15 weeks sounds slightly strange are you sure that they were 14 weeks and how big is their comb? About the nesting box chickens sometimes need a little help to find where they're supposed to lay maybe put a fake egg in to help them...
I too have a bossy older hen what sometimes helps her not to pick on the others is a sort of seed ball for chickens it is proven to calm down the pecking
