    BriteTap nipple waterer

Hi! We've been using the britetap for about 3.5 years and it's been great for most of the time. The girls use that as their only source of water and are still happy and healthy. We got 6 babies this spring and they all figured it out within a few days (I kept a traditional waterer out until I...

    2nd dead this month :(

Thanks! I check the girls over periodically and they've all looked fine from the outside - no outside parasites, good comb coloring, their parts feel ok, etc. I'm hoping that it's not something contagious but am also hoping that someone can offer a few possibilities of what this could be? (I...

    2nd dead this month :(

I'm hoping that you all can help me figure this one out! I just went out to the coop this morning and one of my 3-yr-old Buff Orpingtons, PomPom, sitting near the waterer that the girls share. I tried to get her up but she didn't really respond other than to look at me. Her eyes weren't...

    Experiences with heated waterers

Did you end up giving this a try? Was it enough power? I'm still trying to figure out a perfect winter watering solution for here in Maine. Many thanks!

    BriteTap nipple waterer

Great fix! After some monkeying around with heaters and pumps inside the cooler with a britetap, we've just put it away for the winter. We are currently using an uninsulated bucket with horizontal nipples and a cable aquarium heater with a 35degree thermocube and it's been working fabulously...

    BriteTap nipple waterer

Mamadawn - awesome idea!! And, so much easier than building a new waterer!

    BriteTap nipple waterer

Bummer guys! I'm a new chicken parent to 8 this year and have been using the Britetap waterer so far and LOVE it. Super easy, keeps the girls in fresh, clean water for a few days at a go and along with the automatic door, lets us occasionally get away for a few days at a time ... But, temps...

    Possible broody?

Honey Bee, I'm having the exact same issue with 2 of my BO's right now! They just started laying 5 or 6 weeks ago...can they be broody already? They both have been hanging out in the nesting boxes (excluding the other girls), growling when I come close (none of the others seem to care)...

Hens stopped laying over a month ago.

I'm not sure what's going on but I experienced something similar with my one layer here in Maine (so similar climate to you). She just stopped laying for about 3 weeks, for no apparent reason. Finally, this morning, she got back at it and gave us a small (but very much appreciated and...

    should I worry?

Ok - I guess all I needed to do was to post here One of the girls was making quite a racket this morning - I wasn't sure if they were being attacked or what. When I went out to check on them I found, Odette (the 1.5yo Black Orp) was doing the singing and there was a small but warm egg sitting...

    should I worry?

My Black Orpington, who is about 1.5yrs old, hasn't produced any eggs for about 3 weeks now. She seems to be in fine health otherwise - she looks good and is acting normally. We adopted her about 2 months prior (she was the lone survivor of a hungry fox at my friend's place) and since the day...
