I hatched this chick out of a large blue egg and I am trying to figure out what cross it might be. I have lavender ameraucana, crested cream legbar and crested blue mixed hen that may have laid the egg. I have a buff orp, crested SFH and buff orp/Australorp cross roo. The chick looks like it's...
Sadly the chick had just passed. It was on its last breath so I attempted to make an opening and was able to get a good amount of waste out of it but it was too late. I think it may have worked if I had noticed this sooner but the chick seemed to be active before I went to work today.
My 3 day old chick has gone limp and is chirping loudly. Checked for pastypbutt and I see no opening in the vent just skin. Should i try to create can opening HELP!!
It was an impacted crop. She had a large clump of something in there and she was shaking her neck to reposition her crop. I isolated her, gave her some olive oil with a dropper and gently massaged her crop for a couple weeks but this still did not break up the mass. It was a very hard feeling...
I have noticed one of my hens doing this weird neck spasm. It seems like she is trying to adjust things in her crop or something, not sure, but it doesn't seem like she has control over it. She seems fine otherwise. Anyone have this happen before? What did you do?
Here's a video I found of...
Sadly he did not make it through the day. Is there steps I should take to make sure the rest of my flock will be okay? Nothing seems to be wrong with any of them. I'm going to try and contact my cooperative extension and see about having testing or a necropsy done to see what may have been the...
He is eating and drinking on his own. He had a partially full crop when I came home from work today so I'm assuming he's eating fine. He actually seemed okay this afternoon when I got home, no issues with his neck or acting dizzy. I honestly thought I was going to find him dead after how he was...
It looks like "stargazing" and this just started this morning. I've been giving him water with vitamins since this weekend. Any ideas what's going on with him? Treatment?
I checked on him this morning and he seems to be having trouble controlling his head/neck. He's got it tilted backward and seems like he is dizzy or just out of it. He fell over sitting down. It seemed like he was getting better yesterday now he's even worse than before.
I brought him in tonight to give him a bath because he had feces all matted on his feathers from laying down all day. After getting his feet cleane off it does look like he has some frostbite.
I'm assuming this is why he's been lethargic and not wanting to stand. Is there anything else I can...
He seems to be doing better now. I gave him electrolyte water and he ate a little more. He was resting all day and now he was able to get up on his own to get more water!
The frostbite is pretty bad, he's had it for a while now since the temperature has dropped drastically. I was giving him a baby aspirin/day for 4-5 days in row to help with the pain from frostbite then stopped because I didn't want to give him too much. The back of his comb is white and crusty...
I have a rooster that has frostbite on his comb and wattles that has become lethargic. This morning I found him laying on the ground and he was very limp when I picked him up. He doesn't want to stand but when he does he's got a bit of a limp. His feet don't look frostbitten to me but I'm sure...
I'm not sure of the exact weight. It was at least 60+ grams. The BCM eggs that I received were very large and dark brown. I had 3 eggs and just the one hatched so I don't have any other BCM from this breeder to compare her to.
I let them free range when I'm home, usually on weekends. By the time I get home from work during the week now they're already roosted up for the night. I've been contemplating getting a timer for the light I have in the coop but I'm not sure if it would be a good thing to do
My black copper marans pullet has been laying for a month or two so far. I have only gotten very small (about 35g) light brown eggs covered in brown spots. All the other pullets of various breeds that were hatched with her are now laying mostly large eggs. Is this just because she's a fairly new...
