Hi KayTee,
I did find signs of red mite but not infestation, she was clearly anaemic so it is very possible that was the problem. I feel bad that I hadn't realised just how. Bad she was.
Thank-you. She was about 15 months old and was a lovely well tempered girl. She had been broody for a week when I got her some fertile eggs. I noticed some red mite when she initially sat but cleaned out and powdered the whole area immediately. She had been getting up at least twice a day to...
My beautiful silver lace Wyandotte has been set on eggs for over a week now. She has been out twice a day eating and has been drinking and there are no issues with red mite,
This morning I found her on the bottom of the pen away from her eggs and hardly moving!!! She had her eyes closed and...
Hi,
I had two broody Wyandottes and ordered eggs for the and set them 5 days apart due to the arrival times of the eggs. One of the girl who was set last quit them after a week. I have put her eggs under the other hen who seems very committed. What chance is there of the later eggs hatching...
Hi,
No they aren't double yolks and they don't have light in the coop. I don't let them out until 7am due to the proximity of my neighbours though at the moment it's light soon after 5.30.
They always have oyster shell available so I will try the crushed egg shells.
Thanks for the advice.
Claire
Hi,
I could really use some advice.
I have 3 Wyandottes and two hybrids. I have had the hybrids for about 3 months and they were laying when I got them.l One was laying larger eggs than the other but they are getting bigger and bigger and I'm really worried about the health implications...
Hi All,
I've just started having a problem with one of my 3 Wyandottes pecking her eggs. I have just introduced two new hybrids and I suspect there is a connection. I've narrowed it down to one of two and wondered if it was stress as we are still at the 'pecking stage' of inter gratin?
None...
Thank you both for the replies that's certainly given me things to try.
They have a small coop and a closed in run area but I have let them have the run of my garden during the winter months as the sun doesn't doesn't get high enough in the shortest days to give them sun where the run is.
The...
Hi,
I previously posted asking for advice as one of my 3 hens had just started laying and wasn't using the nesting box but was unsing a planter outside, we suspected the cat was using the coop.
We have for over two weeks now kept the cats in during the day and put fake eggs in the nesting...
Hi, thanks for that. The run is surrounded by a wall so I can't keep the cats out of it so I'll try locking the coop for a while. I wouldn't mind but the cats have access to the house with cosy beds!
