    Rat or weasel??!!

I am still learning the hard way, and this forum is of great help many times! Here we have: snakes, weasels, bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, hawks, crows (attack only babies and songbirds, tho), and as I just learned the hard way rats and ground squirrels kill them, too...

    Rat or weasel??!!

Yeah, I do, unfortunately. Mice liked to visit my pantry and I used glue trap, but the ultrasound seemed like a better solution, until now. I've had chicken for 1 year and a half. I lock the food, including their feeders, in large plastic gardening storage boxes or HomeDepot buckets with lid...

    Rat or weasel??!!

Yes, it is in the garage.. In theory we don't have rats/mice in the garage, but I saw their droppings close to the garage door. Have a rat/mice repellent device that keeps rats and mice in control with ultrasound. Their number is significantly lower around the house since we have the device, and...

    Rat or weasel??!!

Wow! Thanks! Yes, rat makes sense.. Not sure where they come in, but I saw one large walking on the water heater one night.. Never expected them to make such a damage tho.. And we have ground squirrels around, but never suspected them before, either, I thought they can steal only the eggs...

    Rat or weasel??!!

I had racoon and opossum attacks before and they are very different. Both killed one bird a night, after dark or at dusk. Opossums ate it on the spot, while the raccoon tried to carry it away. These chicks were small, just a week to 3 weeks old, 3 bodies disappeared (2 babies and a 3 weeks...

    Rat or weasel??!!

Today, in the middle of the day, and in just a matter of an hour or 2, 10 of my chicks were killed (7 week old and 3 three weeks old), two disappeared (the larger 3-4 week ones), and two babies wounded. They were in the garage, homed in cardboard boxes, with the older ones flying/walking...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Kraienköppe

Thank you Abesinger, Wingedshade and Eagrbeavr! His name is Pharaoh, his colors just reminded me somehow of them :). Here is his lady, or at least one of them. Pardon her feet, they are among the best foragers in the flock, and the mud hides the color :).

    Chicken Breed Focus - Kraienköppe

I love the coloration of my rooster. I've got two hens and my rooster.. They are so different from the rest of the flock with their long legs and neck :).

Comment by 'chickspea' in item 'Barred Rock'

Definitely one of my favorite breeds! Pros: lays early, and regularly, beautiful lighter and darker pink eggs! Very curious, and one of them (I have two in my flock) is the friendliest of all hens I have. Cons: they were weird and flighty as "teenagers" which kinda discouraged me whether I...

OE hen crossed to Orpington Roo

OE is Olive Egger, and mine is a cross between a Black/Blue Copper Maran and a Black/Blue/Splash Ameraucana, based on what the breeder had and how she looks.. In any case, she looks exactly like a Blue Ameraucana, and the egg color is some very deep olive green. I wanted to cross her with the...

OE hen crossed to Orpington Roo

I have an OE hen that lays beautiful eggs. Unfortunately I have two roosters over the hens, one GCM and one Lemon Cuckoo Orpington (kids favorite). I hope the baby I just hatched is a cross between the OE and GCM, but what will I get if it is the Lemon Cuckoo Orpington? Is it considered an EE or...

    Marek's disease killing vaccinated chicks?

I had my GCM dying in just two days. She manifested wry neck one morning, got worse by the evening, even worse by next morning, and in just a over a day she couldn't open her eyes. She had light green, paste like stool before she died. She was dead in less than 48 hours after I noticed her...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

Well, she just died. I kinda expected it based on how she looked before I left her in the evening.. I guess I'll never have a favorite hen again, it is just so unfair to loose exactly those. My only GCM? And she was SOOO beatiful! The nicest GCM color I can imagine! Due to her very fast...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

Thank you! I'll check what exactly is in their feed, now that I know what I am looking for, and will start adding Nutridrench for the others! Thanks for the advices! I'll definitely buy some brewers yeast as well, there is always some for sale here in San Diego, in the land of microbreweries...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

They got the organic Scratch & Pack chick starter mixed with King's Freedom chick starter, not the "medicated" ones, with antibiotics and so on, but they are supposed to have all what's needed except the antibiotics. And the little hen didn't have diarrhea, coughing, or any other Newcastle...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

Than today I probably overdosed her a bit, She is probably 2 pounds or so, so I should've given only 50mg instead of 60mg. It is 2/3 of a baby Aspirin I gave it her, and only ones today. What are the signs of an overdose?

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

Sorry my mistake. I had the 350 mg capsule, dissolved it in 3 ml water and gave her 0.25 ml ones, that is 30 mg, and then 0.5 ml = 60 mg. That is 0.9 g for the whole day. I'm not going to give her any more. I'll check the table, but I'm not going to give her any more, as it doesn't really seem...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

Thank you KayTee! I gave her about 150 mg Aspirin so far, in two doses. One last night, and one today. She got worse, just sleeping. I fed her 1 ml egg yolk, and 1-2 ml water about 3-4 times already. She was barely awake for seconds in the morning, but wouldn't open her eyes for the past 3...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

Thanks Audio51 for keeping fingers crossed :). Try to be patient and positive.. She is very small and young I guess at 4.5 months, so I will not give up on her a while.. She is not better, but she made it 'till the morning. I gave her again 2-3 ml of water and the vitamin dose. She is moving a...

Wry neck...Treat or euthanize?? UPDATED with GREAT results!!

I read in a separate thread that Aspirin can be given to chicks. Would that help instead of the Prednison?
