    my pet chicken reviews

Thumbs down on Olive Eggers from MyPetChicken! I received my 3 olive egger chicks back in July from MyPetChicken. They clearly are welsummer/crested cream legbar mix. Sweet girls, docile. Looking forward to pretty green eggs of any degree of light or darkness. Happy girls that stick...

    Calling all pictures of Barnevelders

I have 2 barnies and they are the least personal of the bunch! Even as fluffy handfuls, they ran from being touched or held faster than any other little chickie I had. Hazel dislikes being touched or near people, with no exception, can't get near for for anything. Penny always gets in my face...

This is lovely Hazel. I hate breaking such beautiful eggs, but have done some frying, and baked some bread already!

What color are YOUR Easter Egger's eggs?

These pale blue beauties come from the easter egger below. She started laying about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes leaves a giant double yolker then takes a day off!

    Buff Orpington egg color

Buff Orpington eggs. The 3 lighter ones come from Gwen, and the darker rose ones come from Sunshine. Both sweet and nearly identical BO girls, lay totally different tinted eggs.

    Barnevelders eggs

From my Barnevelder, Hazel. Was worried they wouldn't carry a dark enough color that I would like. It's a rich and copper tone. Love it!

Feeders inside the coop or outside in the run? And other feeder questions.

I do keep it full always, so I will go back to 1 feeder and see how things go, thanks!

Feeders inside the coop or outside in the run? And other feeder questions.

Is one feeder for 9 hens ok? I've seen that as many as 6 can eat together at 1 of my feeders? I don't wAnt to start aggression between them or have any girl that can't eat.

Feeders inside the coop or outside in the run? And other feeder questions.

I did cover much of my run with a tarp last year, ice collected on top. That turned I to a lot of weight. Went out 2 different times over the winter to try to break and remove it. Haven't decided how to cover this year.

Feeders inside the coop or outside in the run? And other feeder questions.

My coop is 4x8 ft, I have always kept food inside on a hanging 7lb feeder. This was fine with 6 chickens. When I added 3 more hens over a month ago, I also added a second feeder also inside the coop. All hens get along great. Can I go with one feeder, should I stick with 2? Should I move one...

    Sleeping in the nests?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/pictures-of-chicken-nesting-boxes-how-to-build-a-nest-box https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/41108/show-us-your-nest-boxes-ingenous-design-post-it-here This might get your nesting area in the right direction and look less roost-worthy.

    Sleeping in the nests?

Yeah, few nights to a week sounds right. You can keep the nests blocked until close to laying age as well. Then open the boxes with fake eggs or golf balls inside.

Did you build your own coop or buy one already made?

I got lucky and inherited the coop when we bought our house. Previous owners built it themselves.

    Egg squat?

First egg today! One weeks after she started squatting. I'm assuming it was her, she is the only one doing the squat, did not see her in the nest. (next to a large white store egg for comparison)
