EE had a soft shelled egg and then no more eggs ... what could it be?

She's about 2.5 years old, seems to be in good health still. Running around eating and drinking fine with the other 4 chickens. I'm worried because she hasn't layed in a few days and usually she lays almost every day.

Help! Day old chick with hiccups/dying ???!!!

Thanks for your help! It has been a few hours now, and she seems a little better. She was opening her mouth very regularly for a while. Then it seemed like it was only happening for about 10 minutes at a time after I fed her. I've been doing an eye dropper of eletcrolyte water and one of watered...

Help! Day old chick with hiccups/dying ???!!!

My chicks just arrived in the mail, and all seemed ok, drank their first sips of water, etc. Then in a couple of hours, two of them were eating and drinking and running around like crazy. The other is still frail. Keeps opening her mouth like she is trying to get air or has hiccups (don't really...

narcoleptic chicken - is it a problem?

Oh, I'm also a little extra worried because our next coor neighbor's chickens have mites, so I put DE all in the run inside the coop, on the roosting bars and in the nesting boxes. I haven't had a chance to inspect our chickens yet.

narcoleptic chicken - is it a problem?

She a cuckoo marans and is a little over a year old, was laying regularly, then went broody for the second time this summer. We had her in a separate cage until she snapped out of it, and quit hanging out in the laying box. I can't tell if she has started laying again yet. I haven't been around...

narcoleptic chicken - is it a problem?

One of our 5 chickens has recently taken to falling asleep standing up in the run. It seems to be happening quite often and is a new phenomenon for her. Sometimes she's up on one leg like a flamingo. None of the other chickens sleep standing up. I'm a little worried about her, but maybe it isn't...

Chickens and the Garden can I ask the question here?

We let our chickens run around under our fruit trees and around our raised beds. We have aviary netting around all the raised beds to keep them from eating all of our food. They get all the fruit that drops, so we have to make sure we pick the fruit regularly, but they have really cut down on...

    Vacation Coming

With an enclosed run, sounds like they should be very happy. It's not that long. We have left ours for a week long trip with an enclosed run and a friend to check on them every few days and they've been very happy.

Why are chickens such a big deal?

I think she means what's the big deal with cute, fun, egg laying, chickens being illegal in so many areas when it is legal to have so many obnoxious birds.

    a chicken garden?

We used raised boxes for our garden and built a fenced area around some of the boxes and the fruit trees for our chickens to run around in during the day. The boxes have aviary netting around them so the chickens can't get in to eat the veggies. During winter, we grow cover crops and we...

With time, will a broody hen snap out of it?

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll just have to make time to make that other cage for her. We take her out of the box and give her food and try to get her to hang out with the other chickens about 5 times a day, but she sure is stubborn.

With time, will a broody hen snap out of it?

This is my first year with chickens (well, it has been about 11 months) and I have my first broody hen. We are not planning on anymore chickens for a while, so I don't want to put any fertile eggs under her. I also don't have the time right now to build a separate cage with a wire bottom for her...
