a chicken garden?

sorry the picture is so bad but thats the best I could get it. The gate that goes to the green bean/corn area swings to close off their area and open the garden or close the garden and opens their area. INside my coop is two doors so I can open to which half of the garden I want them.

We used raised boxes for our garden and built a fenced area around some of the boxes and the fruit trees for our chickens to run around in during the day. The boxes have aviary netting around them so the chickens can't get in to eat the veggies.

During winter, we grow cover crops and we made chicken wire screens that sit on top of box and remove the aviary netting so the girls can stand on the chicken wire and eat the greens that grow through but they can't scratch up and kill the plants as they do with every other patch of ground that they run around on. When it is time to turn the cover crop in, we let them in to eat and scratch to help with that process as in the photo below.

It has worked really well for us and has gotten rid our codling moth problem.
