    Learning to roost

It's the middle of our winter but it's only getting down to about 12 degrees Celsius at night..... We've had our cold snap & now it's back to this glorious weather. Wish it was like this all year but sadly Summer will be here before we know it and then it's temps of 30+ & ridiculous humidity

    Learning to roost

So our little flock are about 7 weeks old now & I have still been putting a light on at night for a bit of warmth. The trouble is, I'm sure they don't need it anymore but if I don't turn it all they all huddle at the gate & don't go to their roost or bedding! So I go turn on the light (old...

    1 eyed chick

That sounds like something my Dad would say! Lol.... There is no way I could do that though. It definitely doesn't seem to be suffering - unless all the chirping is a sign of distress? Clearly it has a few things going on.... I guess time will tell! Poor lil chicky

    1 eyed chick

One of our little chicks (5 weeks old) is so tiny compared to the others but we just noticed only 1 eye has opened. It eats, drinks & scratches around happily however it is super noisy & it's new feathers are falling out....any suggestions?

    Hen or Roo?

Well, it's a Silver Laced Wyandotte. Is it supposed to be the same age as the others? It might have hatched from a pullet's egg, which are smaller than an adult hen's eggs are, thus hatching out a smaller than average chick that will eventually catch up in size. Or it be something genetic and...

    Hen or Roo?

I guess you are right...they could have been day olds when we got them and sold under the pretence they were older! It's from a breeder - I'll have to check if she breeds Marans (I don't think she does)! We don't want them for breeding/showing, just pets so it's no big issue. We just at hope...

I agree though as I look at other photos and think that ours look no where near as feathered for a similar age
