Im not sure if yours will turn out the same as mine but the little chick I originally posted about turned out to be a very healthy and happy chicken. We named her "pidge" and although she is still a little smaller than the others, she eventually started growing. Surprisingly, she lays the...
So I just cracked all 5 eggs open last night and not ONE of them was even fertile!!???!?? I am beyond confused. The first 2 eggs laid were laid on the same day and when I cracked them they very distinctly had the bullseye indicating fertility. So I assumed the rest of the eggs laid were fertile...
I have 5 silkies. 1 rooster and 4 hens. They just recently started laying eggs (haven't been able to tell which ones) but the first two eggs laid were fertile because when I cracked them open I saw the bullseye on both (sorry chicks) so I decided to incubate the rest to see if any would hatch...
I am trying to get my incubator ready to put the eggs in but it won't stay at 100 degrees!
So the temp in my house is a very consistent 75-79 degrees. I bought a cheap still air incubator one of those styrofoam ones. So I read the directions about 10 times and I very carefully turned the dial...
Thank you for the advice. I should've been more specific, we have a styrofoam piece that we just put over about 3/4 of the top of the box only at night like a little roof so they feel protected. During the day we open the door to the outside to let in fresh air and ventilation.
Suddenly over the last 2 days my Silkie rooster has been wheezing, sneezing and making other strange noises. Today he was opening his beak and making this loud screeching noise. He doesn't seem terribly lethargic and he's eating drinking and pooping fine. I have 5 silkies total and the other 4...
Sorry for a late update. Here was the same chick as my earlier post at about 8-9 weeks old (bo peep, left. nutmeg, right)
I don't have a good recent pic of nutmeg, the blue silkie. So here is Bo Peep at 12 weeks and you can see nutmeg a little on the left.
And here is one of the...
I am really confused because I keep hearing about how people who raised their silkies the same as I have, have very friendly silkies who will let them hold them and pet them. The only circumstance I see where a chicken won't do this is if that person bought the chickens when they were a lot...
I have a 12 week old Silkie who is starting to bully the 2 other chickens and 2 smaller chickens. And he seems like he's generally on the lookout and really skiddish (even though he got handled as much as the others)
Now, my 5 week old chick is starting to defend itself when my 12 week old goes...
I have 4 Silkie chickes and they are all fairly the same age except for the youngest (by 1 week) who had a slow start.
This is peaches who I am thinking is a rooster. It suddenly developed this huge comb on it beak and the others don't have it yet. He is also the biggest and bossiet!
Nutmeg...
This is not the greatest progression but this is what I have
1 week Silkie chick
2 week Silkie chick
3 week Silkie
4 week Silkie (sorry the lighting isn't great)
They are 4 weeks old now so I can update this again in a month. Ive been looking for progression pictures also, I hope...
I have an almost 3 week old (will be 3 weeks on Thursday) Silkie chick who hasn't seem to have grown at all except for his wing feathers just a bit. It eats, drinks and poops fine. And it has plenty of energy. It actually eats more then the others. The biggest white one is a little over 4...
She looks like she has the partridge patterning to me but is a very light gray/blue color. Really no brown at all. I've only seen brown partridge silkies. Is there a way to know what her adult color will be like? She is 1 month old. (Or possibly "he"!)
I have 4 silkies. 1 is about 6 weeks old. 2 are about 4 weeks old and 1 is almost 3 weeks old. The 3 week old chick is the same size as it was when it was 4 days old. It's eating and drinking fine and has as much energy as the other ones. The only thing is that it's poop is pretty runny and...
