24 week hens still not laying?!

Also to add, they used to roost in the rafters and such. We had to clip their wings a few weeks ago so they couldn't anymore, when we moved the babies from the brooder into the coop. Otherwise they would just fly from "their" area into the "baby" area.

24 week hens still not laying?!

Our long term plans are to create a sustainable farm. We built our house and finished in January. Literally lived in a camper with 4 kids and a 100lb german shepherd for 8 months on-site and built much of it with our own hands. We started chickens in April because they seemed "easiest" LOL...

24 week hens still not laying?!

Thanks for the positive support! When we designed the coop we read that nests should be at least 3ft off the ground. Then when we put the chicken door up that took a wall, windows on the opposite side took a wall, and then our chick/brooder area took an entire side (we hope to raise home grown...

24 week hens still not laying?!

I just got home from work so here's a few snaps this morning. The coop is 12x12 with the boxes sticking out the side. It is 8 ft tall. It's also not completely finished. At the moment it is partitioned off with an enclosed area for our other 16 8 week olds. The floor plan is not ideal at all...

    Make or female, and breed?

Am I correct that this is a female buff silver laced polish? A friend is giving it away and I am thinking of adding it to my flock if it's a female. Thanks!

    Pimple on chicken?

I found a big pimple on one of my rescued hen's lower back, just above the tail. For some reason it won't let me upload a picture. It's a bit white head, any idea on what it may be?

How and when to integrate chicks?

Help! I'm not sure where to go, we jumped probably a bit too quick into the chicken world. We built a coop, got 8 mature laying hens, and 6 tiny chicks in one day about a month ago. The hens settled quickly and are sweet, happy, and very friendly. they have their coop and free range during the...

Rescued a flock and they're our first chickens-advice?

So we rescued 8 hens (Bovan Browns) and a rooster (giant black Cochin) from production. They are 12-14 months and we literally threw up a coop in a day. We had been wanting chickens for a while. The guy said he worked them and that they're coming out of molt. They're very friendly girls but...

How to secure our coop quickly for storms??

We unexpectedly obtained our first chickens, 9 of them-more like a rescue really, 3 days ago. We threw together a "hoop coop" and have been working every moment we have to make the coop comfortable for them. It's an 8'x12'' and right now on cinder blocks with a plywood floor and about 6" of...

Anyone want to be my mentor?

Hello from Arkansas! My family has taken a great leap of faith and decided to jump into homesteading blindfolded and head first. We sold our city house and moved into a travel trailer (us, our 4 kids, and german shepherd), bought 10 acres of wooded land, and are building a house big enough for...
