    Mold and stink

I don't think the opening is too high, they don't seem to reach up to eat but I am going to try cutting a cap in half! Thank you!

    Mold and stink

Yeah it seems as if they take their beaks and scoop it out but only eat what's in the feeder. It's like they refuse to eat what's on the ground lol.

    Mold and stink

I have a PCV waterer and feeder which I have found work great and stay rather clean. However I am running into an issue. When the water drips it molds the landscaping timbers I have lined my run with. Also the food they throw out gets wet with rain and it's smells to high heaven. The coop and...

Not sure if this is normal or not.

I got 4 new hens and noticed ones feet do not look like the rest of mine. I have heard of bumblefoot but of course the only pictures you see online are like worst case scenario.... Is this normal or should I be concerned? Pictures below

    Rooster problems

I have 5 hens and 2 roosters. I ended up with 2 roosters on accident. I have heard the hen to rooster ratio but being that I raised them from chicks I was too attached to get rid of them and they were so sweet when they were young. As they have matured they have been taking a toll on my hens...

    Chicken in a tree.

One of the white ones was the one in the woods... They other one would have really missed her, they are always attached at the hip, literally, as you can tell in the picture lol. Also I was told the 3 black chickens were bantams and now that they are grown I don't seem to think they are....

    Chicken in a tree.

I do let them free range occasionally but not very often, mostly when I'm able to supervise them because I am afraid of predators but today was so nice compared to the cold weather, I let them stay out and wasn't home by dark... I doubt I will clip her wings because they are just so beautiful...

I've been told about clipping wings, I don't know how to do it but does it hurt them?

    Chicken in a tree.

Thank you both for your replys. I just couldn't stand the thought of her alone out the coop all night being that none of my chcikesn have done that before. I went out again and looked and looked and looked.... I FOUND HER! My heart is so happy and now I will be able to sleep tonight. She is...

    Chicken in a tree.

I'm so scared and sad. One of my chickens didn't go up in the coop tonight, she decided to go in the tree which I knew chickens do but mine haven't before. I tried to get her out and she flew to another tree and now I can't see her. I'm sure she's not far but what are the chances she will be in...

    First time broody hen!

She had 8, 2 of which weren't under her very well and I saw cracks so I tossed them. Then I watched her get up for water and noticed of the 6 left, 3 had cracks but I left them because she was sitting on them so im not sure what to do with them now. I think I may give it a week and candle them...

    First time broody hen!

Cracked eggs are not good candidates for hatching. Eggs should be fairly clean and undamaged. If the shell is compromised, bacteria can enter. She won't be happy about you moving her eggs around, but she will still sit on them. I candle all my 'broody' eggs periodically to track development. I...

    First time broody hen!

I think I'm gonna leave her in the same spot just put her in a small kennel.... Is it okay to touch her eggs to put them in there? And no one has said anything about the small cracks I saw in 3 of the eggs. Is this okay?

    First time broody hen!

The 6 eggs were laid over a span of 3-4 days. I'm a nurse so I won't be able to separate her until tonight (I found her like this, this morning), do you think she'll be okay until then.. Should I put in her a kennel inside the coop?

    First time broody hen!

I appreciate your questions because I don't exactly know what im doing. Yes she is sitting where it seems my two laying hens always lay. I can move her if needed into a dog kennel but would touching her eggs stop her from laying on them? I am kinda concerned because she got up for water and I...
