Just a little update to let you know he has continued to seem fine during the rest of today. I've also spotted him sat down on his perch so hopefully it was just a sprain/bruise. I'll keep him in again tomorrow just to be in the safe side but fingers crossed he is recovering. Thanks for your...
Thank you both for your help. He seems better this morning, still completely normal in himself, and the feathers on his legs don't seem to hanging so lowly. I haven't seen him sit down yet but that's not unusual as he's normally spends the day wandering around. I've kept him in and I'm keeping...
I've just been out to see if I could get any photos in the dark. I don't know how well you'll be able to see but it's the body feathers at the top of his legs that seem lower than usual. To be honest they look better than they did when he went to bed 3 or 4 hours ago, hanging less lowly.
He's not catchable. I'm not experienced and he's never been possible to touch because he was extremely scared when we got him. It's probably more likely to cause more harm. I can get a vet to come and have a look at him if necessary.
Hello all,
I have an adult peacock who has been perfectly happy and healthy. Today, whilst he was roaming around he suddenly seemed to take fright and ended up leaping in the air and flapping quite a bit. I didn't see what caused the outburst, just saw him mid-jump. However, after I'd calmed...
Hello,
I've just got up this morning and found my previously healthy 5-year-old peacock behaving a bit unusually and wondered if any of you could give me some advice. He has hardly touched his breakfast and when he went to it he kept 'chattering' his beak, opening and closing it a little...
Hello,
Over the last week at least one of my peacocks appears to have started losing his feathers. I have found four or five tail feathers in their shed, along with more small feathers than usual. I have three peacocks but only one has a full tail (the others are still too young), so although...
Thank you @Garden Peas for your advice on medication, it's a topic I've been struggling to work out as most of the advice on here seems to be based on the American market and I wasn't sure what was available to purchase here in the UK. I'm pleased to hear it's possible to purchase the aqueous...
Just thought I should post a follow-up in case anyone with similar symptoms finds this post. My peacock seems even happier this morning - he is holding his wings much higher and I haven't found any yellow stools. It's been even hotter today so I think it must have been caused by...
About 21/22 degrees celsius maybe? Admittedly not that warm for many parts of the world but a hot day in Britain. Also they were in a box in a car, which while air conditioned may have exacerbated the problem. He doesn't seem any worse tonight so fingers crossed he'll be ok tomorrow. Thank you...
Will do! There are two water supplies in his enclosure and I've seen him drink since he arrived so hopefully if that is the problem it will sort itself out. Would the warm weather/dehydration explain the sometimes drooped wings?
That's what I was hoping. It's good to know those sort of symptoms can be caused by stress, it would make more sense with the rest of his behaviour which seems bright and healthy.
Hello,
I've just brought two new peacocks home to join my lonely yearling. However one of them seems to have a yellowish stool, that dries white. I know this can be a symptom of blackhead so I'm obviously worried as I've only just got him and he's going to be mixing with the other new bird and...
Hello,
I've just seen my peacock swallow about 2-3ft of silicone sealant he found. I tried to catch him and stop him but he just swallowed it down. I've read that other people have had their chickens and ducks eat silicone and be ok but this was always much shorter lengths. Is there anything I...
