Coop & Run Design for a small urban plot that uses Deep Litter Method on Dirt Floor

This is the coop I built in my tiny urban lot. I lined the entire perimeter with 6 inches of hardware cloth to keep out predators. No problems in that department so far even though their are several resident foxes and raccoons. There is no flooring in the coop or run. No hardware cloth...

Sexing a straight run of wyandottes

I got them from Ideal Poultry--Assorted Wyandotte Bantams. Can you see the dark mark some of them have on their heads? The customer service lady told me that they do not sex the bantams. Any opinions? Does the mark mean they are boys or simply a variety of wyandotte? Ideal Poultry by the way...

Starting Deep Litter on Established Lawn?-

I live in the city. I just completed my coop 4'x5' attached to a 7x5' run. There is no floor. The coop and run rest on the grass. Should I dig up the turf and dig down a bit (6 inches) before I place pine shavings and other carbon material on the floor or is that just making more work for...

Sexing a straight run of wyandottes

Oh my. I ordered 8 wyandotte bantams and got 22. I am trying my best to get rid of them. I do not have enough room in my brooder, and certainly not in my coop. It would help if I could tell the boys from the girls. They are 3 days old. Some of them have a dark mark on their head. Are those...

    The Wyandotte Bantam Thread

I am thinking about getting Wyandotte Bantams. They are so beautiful. I live in a very tiny urban lot. I am planning on 4 in a coop that will be 4 x 5ft and a run that will be 8 x 5 feet. I plan on letting them free range 3 or 4 times per week for a few hours a day. I have 2 questions...

Coop & Run Design for a small urban plot that uses Deep Litter Method on Dirt Floor

I was thinking of simply burying a foot of wire cloth all around the perimeter of the run and coop. Do you think that is adequate or should I go 2 ft. or should I enclose even the bottom with wire cloth? Lisa

Coop & Run Design for a small urban plot that uses Deep Litter Method on Dirt Floor

I am thinking of the type of coop and run that will fit in my small urban landscape. I want to do the Old Time Deep Litter Method on a dirt floor, however, I noticed that almost all of the urban/small coop designs have a coop with an elevated floor. After pouring through this and many other...
