Personally it looks normal to me. I haven't hatched ducks before but that is what I see when I hatch chicken chicks. If you have been turning them then they should be fine. I would let it hatch on its own. Only help if really needed.
The way to correctly turn eggs manually is to lay them on their sides and put a x on one side. Turn it 180 degrees 3 times a day. So if the x is facing up one time the next time you turn it so the x is facing down. You don't turn it from facing one wall to another. Your rolling it so the x is...
I agree with everyone else. It will be a mud pit. You could try to switch them between two but I'm not sure how well that would work.
As for the food and water question; do you have food and water inside the coop part?
Do you think it will work better if I put the eggs that look like they aren't developing under her and if she sits put the ones that look like are going to hatch there?
That's a good idea, I think I might try that. I'm just worried that she won't sit on them and the are already on day 8. I don't know if I should try it with the wooden eggs and put the ones under her in the incubator and if she sits put them back under her.
Any ideas?
I have a broody hen that has been sitting on eggs for a little over a week. She is in an egg box that all my other chickens have access to. Before she started sitting on them I tried to move her three times. She freaked out each time and wouldn't sit on the eggs unless they were in that box. She...
I'm a little confused. Are you saying that you put the egg in 7-8 days after the other ones that are in there? If this is what your saying I would still turn that egg. I've always opened the incubator during lockdown I've never had a problem. Just don't turn or touch the eggs that are on...
I would say in another day or two make a small hole where you know there air cell is and see if there is any rubbing on the membrane or if there is a beak that came through. I live in NH and it's cold. I have a broody sitting on eggs that are due to hatch Friday. Whenever I do put eggs under a...
I agree you probably should have taken them out of the turner at lockdown. I would definitely try to help since they have been like that for so long. They probably won't make if you don't since they haven't done anything recently. Just make sure to moisten the membrane first. It helps it come...
I would take a wet paper towel and wet it with warm to hot water and wrap it around the part where the membrane has dried on. It will help wet the membrane so it will come off easier. Have they been in the egg like this for 24 hours or did they start hatching 24 hours ago? Also they are still...
Check Craigslist. There are usually some hatching eggs on there. Just be careful and don't go alone to get them. It might be hard to find all of those breeds from one place. If you do order eggs, shipped eggs don't always do as well and you should let them sit point down in an egg carton for a...
I agree with a lot of those reasons too. But chickens also need 15 hours of light a day to keep laying through out the year. That may be a factor too. Since you said that your coop was unlit. I know many people who had unlit coops and there chickens would stop laying because they didn't get...
They just have to establish a pecking order once they do that they should be fine. When I intergrate new chickens I just leave them alone. After a few days of fighting they figure it out and are fine.
