A couple of days ago, i came and one of my hens had a bad cut on to of her foot, to the point, don't know that she can use that toe. anyhow, she was able to stay away from the other chickens by getting on a separate roost and i thought it was healing. I had cleaned it up and put some neosporin...
Last week i put in a nesting box below my poop shelf/roost, pretty excited about how it turned out, definitely the most private part of the coop.
That being said, Also got my first egg today! Yea! (it was on the poop shelf. tho)
Trying to figure out if i need to make any mods to the nesting...
At 4 months it should be obvious right, unfortunately this is my first time
I have two barred rocks with redder / larger combs and waddles, and one that is much smaller.
I know these pics aren't great, but any help would be appreciated
My parents made a cattle panel run where you create a wooden frame at the bottom and bend the panels to create an arch between the two sides. I really like it and they made it much cheaper than my wooden framed run.
Hard for me to tell your dimensions. But if I were you I would run another row of 2x4s half way up horizontally all the way around the coop for stability and to staple wire too
I agree.
If you don't want to bleed it every time, you could add a vent pipe on the end of the watering tube that would extend up to the height of the top of the bucket
Here is a pic of where i would put them,
Coop roughly 8x6 with a 8x3 foot shelf at 3' off the floor that will eventually serve as the poop shelf below the roost.
I have boarded/wired it in to serve as a brooder for a while.
Finished most of the coop today (not the run yet),
Is a week old too early to move my baby chicks from a box in my basement to the coop.
It can limit the area the will stay in to roughly half of what the total coop footprint will be.
I also plan to move the heat lamp out there with them...
Originally i was going to build 4 boxes in a 2x2 layout inside my coop, accessible from a flat door on the outside.
I am considering changing that to a 2 box side by that sticks out accessible by flipping up the box roof.
Interested in thoughts on what i should go with.
If internal i plan to...
I recently cut out my pop door hole and it is a little farther off the ground than i thought it would be, probably 4 feet. Getting ready to build a ramp up to it. Is there a recommended angle to use for that ramp, also a preference to what it is made out of, is a 2x6 too narrow?
Thanks,
dave
This would be the back side of the sketch i posted in the original
Couldn't find the finished version of this end, but i am thinking about extending that current fish shed 4 or 5 feet to the left as a coop.
you can kind of how the ground slopes underneath then flattens out some.
