We had partitioned off the rooster part of the coop a while back so we put the remaining ducks in an available cage. I didn't know what else to do. We put the carcasses on a patch of fresh snow in the duck pen to see what the predator is. I think the owl is plausible I'd like to know for sure.
We just moved the carcasses to the compost. I guess it would be better to tie the carcass down like you said. We're not sure if we have additional chainlink to put as a temporary roof.
We have some ducks in a chain link fence enclosure (dog kennel) with no roof. Yesterday when we were going to feed the ducks we found one dead in the shelter with its neck striped. We found on the outside of the enclosure there were bird tracks, but that could just be magpies (a bird that feeds...
We have a buff Orpington rooster that has been doing something weird. He will be acting normal and all of a sudden he shakes his head and then continues what he was doing. Is this normal? Our other roosters don't do this. He has been doing this for a few months. Does he have a brain injury? What...
Ya, I'll be using 1/200. It is a very interesting article. Mind you it was for E Coli, but still interesting to see steps and studies on mortality rates. Just what I needed.
I have never seen that video btw, I should watch it. Thanks for bringing it up.
Hi, :). Being infected with Marek's was frustrating, but it was probably inevitable. It's almost everywhere from what I've heard. I'm just glad we have nine hens left.
I think we will incubate a test batch of eggs ad see how the Virkon affects them. At the very least we will know for sure...
I was reading some posts on here some time ago about farming mealworms for chickens. I finally decided to try it. We went to our local feed store (that has mealworms) and he said he made a mistake in how he was raising the mealworms and said he could only offer 50 mealworms. He did give me some...
When we decided to get chickens again this year from the hatchery we did not get the Marek's vaccine. We didn't know anything about the disease at the time and thought, "Why pay the extra money? We have never had problems with disease in the past." Biggest mistake ever. We had chickens dropping...
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I didn't know where to put it.
We have a variety of breeds in our flock and some of them have started laying. We now have about 24 eggs right now but some of them are speckled eggs (See picture). We have a Speckled Sussex, a Columbian Rock, a few Barred...
