7 days ago, I introduced a new pullet (4 months) to my flock of 4 hens, who are all about 8 months old.
I've tried everything I can think of, including separating her, putting her on the roost after dark, leaving her in the run alone, leaving her in the run with the others one at a time, etc...
My coop took about 3 weeks. I designed and built it myself (37yo woman) with no help at all. Literally none. And it's the prettiest coop I've ever seen!
Built/planned for 4 hens. It's 4' x 12'. Coop is 4x4 and raised 24" above ground. 6' tall.
Total cost - approx $800

I moved my girls in on Friday evening and gave them access to the run today. They LOVED it! They flopped down in the sunny patch and got their first dust baths in. They are happy hens!!
Ask and you shall receive! This is my coop that I finished yesterday. I'm really proud of it, particularly because I designed and built it myself without any help. Total cost was around $700. Coop is 4'x4'x4' with 2' underneath. Run is 4'wx8'lx6'h. PVC and 5gal bucket waterer and 3"PVC feeder...
I use a feed trough and still had more shavings than food in it after a few hours. I switched to sand and no more trouble! The girls can easily see and access the food, no matter how much digging and scratching they do!
Also, I have a reused Smart Water bottle with a poultry nipple installed...
I completed my coop this weekend and put sand in the coop and run. I also put some in the brooder to make it easier to clean. Already caught one of my little girls dust bathing!
Wow! That is huge. Lucky chicks.
I also finished my coop and run this weekend. Designed and built all by myself. Feeder and watered are ready for my 4 girls to move in this weekend. I will confine the to the coop itself for a week before I give them access to the run.
My coop is under construction while the girls are still little (2-3 weeks). I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!
4'x4' coop (dustbath/shelter underneath), plus 4'x12' run
To do: finish framing run, add roof, install screen door and hardware cloth, add roost bars/poop trays...
I'm using a 16"x36" plastic tub. Made a roost from a branch and scrap wood. Trough-style feeder (they kept using the shallow feed bowl as a sandbox). The waterer is a Smart Water bottle with a nipple in the cap. Bedding is pine shavings, which I replace every few days. Top is a window screen...
I have a polish chick (2 wks old) with coloring that I've never seen on another in my extensive searches online. She's (he's??) got black, tan, and white on her feathers as they are coming in. Anyone seen one like her (him??)?
