    Isa Brown or Golden Comet?

Ok this makes sense @Shadrach, it kind reminds me of the learning curve for easter eggers vs amaraucanas (and araucana!). Yes @Shadrach, when researching the 2 types, i really loved the look of the comet and was hopeful....they are so pretty! Thanks for the info and pics!

Soft half inch band around hard egg, every time

Im with you @Snakebiteholloway, im very sus about ingredients that say processed and by-products in my or my dogs food, it never occurred to me to check their feed. Off topic- i have learned so much about our ultra processed foods from watching a dr on you tube named Chris Van Tulleken. His...

    Isa Brown or Golden Comet?

I should preface by saying my 6 chicks came from Tractor Supply about 4 weeks ago. I got 1 RI Red, 2 Olive Eggers, 2 Isa Brown and 1 Golden Comet. For now i will trust that they are all girls as they assured me....! (And i think they are older) Buuuut, im pretty sure i got 3 isa's or 3 comets...

Soft half inch band around hard egg, every time

Thanks @SmiYa0126 and @rosemarythyme...good points...i will do the calcium twice a day for another week and see what happens. I didnt know a vet could stop them from laying...i would consider that over culling if i cant find someone to do the deed. @aart, no supplemental lighting. I did that...

Soft half inch band around hard egg, every time

I have tried to read everything i could here, on soft shelled eggs and egg eaters. I dont know if its unique that my hen lays a hard egg with a soft band around it, but shes pretty consistent. A friend gave me 3 white hens that were are about 4 years old. I have had them about a year, they...

    Spent grains

I used to have a source too and from what i recall they are a great source of protein and nutrients. The problem i ran into was they have a shelf life....Spent beer grain will keep in the refrigerator for no more than 3 days, and will keep in the freezer for 2-3 months. Do a little research into...

Comment by 'Lynnski' in article 'Six Tips On Breaking Your Egg Eater'

Perfect timing to resurrect this thread! I have 3 white hens about 5yo that were given to me. One lays eggs that have a 1/2" band of softer, lighter shell around the otherwise perfect egg. She has consistently laid this type of egg for the year i have had them. She eats those eggs and no others...

    Comb torn and floppy

Hi, Just wanted some thoughts on my Barred Rock hen who must have got her head stuck in the hardware cloth. Im not even sure it was torn because there is no blood or scab. But what else would cause her comb to be flopping forward? I only have 3 hens and this girl is the boss so i cant see it...

EE laid only 2 eggs in last month!

Hi aart, boy it got cold fast around here! We barely got out of the 30's yesterday and couldnt bring myself to leave a cold wet chicken to the elements! Today was a better day. I took a few pictures of Dixie's butt..... (the better picture would be of me chasing a chicken around trying to get a...
