the little one is starting to look like a small female, agreed. the other two that hatched look like pullets too. What are the chances of hatching 5 pullets!
thanks for the vote of confidence!
he/she does watch the bigger ones eat then follows, which is a pullet trait. Still hoping for a boy so these guys can make a flock.
2 week old pics. Out of the 5 siblings just the one lagging behind on growth still. “He” still eats, drinks and poops so I’m just keeping an eye on him. (bottom right on last picture with the stubby wing feather growth)
Hi @Joylands, thank you for the kind comment! I should update the article because the sloping poop board is no more. It’s was handy for a while, but I found a better solutionwas to relocate the roosts into the run. That way while the chickens are roosting their poop drops into the deep litter...
Hello,
I’ve read that it’s too early to sex a Wheaten Marans until the chest feathers come in. We hatched three. All hatched on the same day, but one is much smaller than the other two. Two have shoulder and tail feathers coming in, the other has hardly started growing feathers. Could this...

Another hot and sticky day in SE PA! I usually let the chickens out at dusk for a run around, but today I strung a tarp up on an enclosure and gave them last year’s CornishX tractor with its food and water station for the whole day. They loved sunbathing and digging dusty holes all day, and no...
We are back in Malvern, PA after half a year away. The car doesn't work and will need money spending on it, so we're living on grocery deliveries. One thing that was delivered was the eggs I ordered, so my home made styrofoam incubator is back in service!
Here's what arrived from Spectrum...
